Flower Causes Slir At Local Residence Blooms Losr Night* For A Few Hours "King for a night.” It’s not the name of n contest winner nor a Mardl Gras ruler— It’s a flower that caused a stir at the Oscar Lankenau residence. 707 North Third street, for several hours last night. The flower, given two years ago by a patient to Mrs. Lankenau, a registered nurse, bloomed for the first time last night—and then only for a few hours. She wasn't sure nl the technical name, but she knew it is commonly known as “King for a Night.'' The bud started opening about S p.m. and Mr*. Lankenau summoned neighbors and friends. By 12:30 o'clock this morning the flower started to close, but not until It bad been seen by two score persons and been photographed for posterity. The flower Is a pure white bloom with a delicate yellow throat and lacey seeds deep in Its Interior about the size of pins. The bloom measured nine Inches across and hung down from a pencil-like stalk, shaped like a fishhook and about nine inches long. Before blooming the stem suddenly started turning upward. Mrs. Lankenau said. The flower is a potted plant and has been kept In the small greenhouse operated by the local lady as a hobby. The and the guests grew sleepy about midnight and decided to retire at 12:30 am., as the bloom was closing and the local lady believes it "didn't last much longer." Although it is the first time that the (tower has bloomed In two years. Mrs. lankenau believes It may bloom again this year—probably late this fall.

Stolen Automobile Reported Recovered An auto, owned by Enos Call, of Sixteenth street, stolen several weeks ago in Fort Wayne while the local man was attending a General Electric picnic, has been recovered in that city, police chief Ed Miller reported today. . ————o———— Charge Woman With Murder Of Husband Drenched Husband With Gas, Set Fire Indianapolis. July 21—(UP)— A 47-year-old house maid who said she drenched her husband with gasoline, threw a match at him and watched him burn to death, will he arraigned today on arson and murder charges. Mrs. Katherine Franklin said she became tired of arguing with her husband. Phillip, also 47. both negroes. She told police that she had intended for a long time to kill him anyway. The couple had several drinks at the home of Mrs. Franklin’s niece, Mrs. Kenneth Washington, early yesterday. “All of a sudden I just got tired of arguing with him all the time,'* Mrs. Franklin said.
Flames enveloped Franklin and he suffered serious burns. He died a few hours later in City hospital. The blaze set fire to the Washington home and threatened the lives of the Washington family's 10 children. The Franklins had heen married 27 years. Mrs. Franklin works as a maid in a northslde home, She said her husband was “drunk as usual" .Saturday night when she met him. They went to the Washington home for the weekend and "began arguing.” she said, early Sunday. She went into the kitchen and returned with a can of gasoline which she doused over her husband. As he started up in anrprise, she struck a match and threw it on his drenched clothing.
