She also repeated the first psalm from memory, and asked all members to repeat the twenty third psalm in unison, dosing with prayer. During the business period, Mrs. W. P. Schrock reported the sum of seven dollars and forty cento spent for refreshments for the June tea. Mrs Patterson reminded the memiters of the sacrificial offering for August, vacation month, which is to be paid in September. Mrs. J. W. McPheeters, program leader, gave a splendid presentation of the subjects "Children and MiMions." She gave the names of chttdren's missionary magazines sucgi as "Missionary Mail," "Home Mission* in the South." “In Five Continents." pictures of many places and others. Missionary readings were given by Delores Wolfe. "I Live In Tahokee, Meg"; Claudett Magley, "Ming Quong Home in Oakland, Calif."; Rita Runyon. Miss Beehler. “World-wide Christian Fellowship." The meeting was closed with the Mizpah benediction. Dainty refreshments were served hy the committee to the twenty seven in attendance. IS HELD The Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church held Its regular meeting Thursday afternoon in the social rooms of the church. Mrs. Steury presided over the business session, during which the circle leaders reported an attendance of forty four at the June circle meetings, and forty calls. A rummage sale was announced for September 13. Miss Bernice Nekton, director of Adams county public welfare, gave an address on the work being done by the department. Mrs. Baughman, assisted by Mrs. N. A. Bixler, gave the devoltons, using Mark 10th, 13-14-16 verses. During the eroctal hour, a committee from circle 111 served refreshments from a beautifully appointed table, centered with a low bowl of sweet peas and candles. This group Is on summer tour presenting programs in churciies, schools and Bible conferences, and is widely re<-ommeiided. o— ——— 20-Year-Old Girl Held For Slaying * Held For Murder In Attempted Robbery Urbana. 111., July 11 (UPI Be cause her wish was granted, 20 yea'-old Betty Gruver, Champaign, 111., will face a murder charge, authorities said today. A. G. Tilton, 40, tavern owner and tourist camp proprietor, was shot in an attempted robbery early Wednesday. He died last night. Mis* Gruver, arrested at a Chi ctigo suburb early Wednesday was quoted by police as saying: "I hope the dies." Miss Gruver was returned he-e ifter police apprehended her at an uncle's home at Brookfb Id. 111. Before re died Ttilton had named his asHailant as "a blonde named Betty." Authorities said they would file murder charges against her. Champaign county sheriff Joseph Clancy signed a warrant yesterday before Tilton died charging Miss Gruver with assault with intent to commit murder. Meanwhile, state's Atty. John J. Bresee said he was checking the pretty blonde's alleged statement to a taxicab driver that "I did a murder In Mattoon a couple of years ago ’’ The statement 'was quoted by Robert a cab driver who said Miss Gruver forced him at gunpoint to drive her hack to Champaign from Tilton's establishment early Wednesday.
