The police official said he expected an arrest and formal charge of homicide would be made during the day. The two men detained were described by police as middle-aged men engaged In the garment business. Police commissioner Arthor W. Wallander, who took personal charge of the Mannerlng slaying investigation yesterday, broke off questioning early today and went home for some rest, fie was expected to return to the case later today and it appeared the predicted break would come after ho had resumed his investigation. Mrs. Mannering, known professionally as Bessie K. True, was found strangled in her seventh floor mid Manhattan apartment early yesterday by her maid.
