Tl.is lesson is a * Umax to this quarte ; the cmphaais is on a growing monotheism, II deepening worship, an Intensely ethical and spiritual message of the prophets, a prophetic literature of Mirpassing knowledge and idealization of Jerusalem as a figure of eternal spiritual values. V 105. "Thy word Is a lamp unto my feet, and a ligut unto my path." The book our light as it contains wise counsel and common -en.e concerning life; it is a lamp to our feet since it lights* up our immediate circumstances. When men live their lives everyday taking the Word of God as their guide, they live acceptably to God. V. 2. "And It shall come to pase in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, ,md shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. Not only have we received through the Jews the Word of God but also the Church, for Jerusalem the seat of the church, was placed on the top of the mountains overshadowing all else. By means of evangelistic and missionary agencies all people in due time will be drawn to God. V. 3 And many people shall go and say. Come ye. and let 11* go up to the mountain of the laird, to the house of the Gist of Jacob, and he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths: so: out of Zion shall xo forth the law. and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” This is a picture of the triumph of true religion in the future, but using Old Testament conceptions! of wo rihip. The working out of the I ideals of religion is a slow process' but >we can depend upon the final triumph of God V.i. And he shall judge among the nations, and s.iall rebuke many people; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spear* Into pruning hooks, nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." Here is God's declaration of world peace. Faith in materialism. in physical force, means war; faith in God, in spiritual force means peace. is on God the burden of tiie new Testament teaching .s4aith in God, as the doctrine of one God la now well established, so when faith In God is well established, will we have world peace. V.I. "Hear ye how what the Lord sallh; Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice." Here is a challenge to the people; if they have any charge against God, let it be made in the presence of the hills, the witnesses of mountains of truths. V. 2. "Hear ye. () mountains, the lx>rd’s controvesy, and ye strong foundations of the earth, tor the Lord hath a controvensy with his people and he will plead with Israel." God had a complaintor indiriment to make. V 3. "O ray people what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.” What injury leave I done unto thee or wherein have I failed that you should turn against me? This is the question on which must be answered by the disobedient. V 4. "For I brought thee out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses. Aaron and Miriam." God’s c laim on Israel and on us as well Is in his providential deliverance — Israel delivered from the bondage of Egypt and we delivered from the Icondage of sin. The fact of deliverance is further emphasized in the following verse. V. 6. "Wherewith shall I come Irefore the Lord, and Imw myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offering**, with calves of a year old?” The nation personified speaks It is represented ■as Inquiring what GoJ wants of them in order that he may grant them his favor; the calves one year old were especially choice gifts. V.7. "Will the Lord be pleased with thousand* of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall .1 give my first born for my trans- ; gression, the fruit of my boy for the lain of my soul" Sacrifice as means 1 to God had become an end in itself. It * the seeking and finding Gcal that counts, by whatever way is taken. V.B. "He hath shewed thee of man, wh< is good and what doth the Irard require of thee, but to do justly, and to lock- mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God" To walk humbly with God comes first; then will follow justice and kindq*u as expiessed to other*. Fundamentally religion is an individual relationship with God and man on the level of love to God and man. The True Patriot He loves his country, but he loves still more the Kingdom of God. He cares too much for his country to uphold her in any wrong. He does not receive his patriot--1 ism until he has a chance to die for his country; he Ilves for her. Hu does not urge the selection of the best men for candidates 1 and then refuse to seive when called upon, tho at the cost of time and money and inclination. He due* not vote for bad men, 1 and then plead tiiat he did not know they were bad. He takes time to investigate the characters of eandites. 0 It Is better to live rich than to die rich.

They were married before Fred went overseas, even tho he could give Sylvia no convincing evidence that he was a Christian; he wa* merely a church member Wounded, discouraged, having received no letters for a long time. On January 12, 1831, a strong sea-going vessel. The Charles Doggett, lay in the harbor at Salem, Massuchusetts. Its captain, William Driver, bad just finished the preparations for a four-year voyage around the world, when he was happily surprised to have the whole town come to his ship to present him with a beautiful large flag which the women had made for him. A storm was arising and the wind was sweeping over the harbor. When the halyard was lowered to receive the flag it was folded In a triangle — an old religious custom. As the flag slowly rues and gradually opened and then swung off to heaven in all its beauty.
