last week’s frost. The name was true in other state* struck by late frosts. In Ohio, crop experts said corn yield estimates “undoubted ly will b«- revised downward, although a late fall maturing season would help.” Outs—‘Excessive rainfall in the central states area prohibited farmers from planting an intended acreage of 48.820,000 acres. Seeded acreage was estimated by private sources at 41.663,00 b acres, or about 86 percent of the total seeded last y«ar. Production was estimated by private crop reporting services at 1,100.000,0uv bushels, compared with last year, output of l,50l»67Ouo bushels. Truck crops Some damage to
strawberries and asparagus was reported in Illinois. Heavy damage was reported In lowa where frost killed most truck crops in the northwest quarter of the state. Damage elsewhere In lowa was spotty. Michigan’s fruit crop was retarded, but little frost damage was reported. Nebraska's truck crops were protected during laat week's frost. Some sugar beets will have to be replanted and some tomatoes were lost. Potatoes were not damaged materially. North Dakota's garden crops were dam aged heavHy. but there still was time to replant. In northern Kansas, bean*, tomatoes and other garden crops suffered substantial damage. 0 Alfalfa Yield High yields of alfalfa result from the extesgivs root system, the volume of soil in which the alfalfa feeds and the long growing period. gBIBLE SCHOOL t Continued tram Paar II verses. TRUMAN STATES I Continued from Pace It nlxe the new regime. The mln later to London sided with the new government and the envoy to Paris still was on the fence. The action of the diplomats in throwing their support to the resigned Hungarian premier. Ferenc Nagy, now in exile in Switreriand. lent credence to reports that dissident Hungarians might attempt to establish abroad a “free Hungarian gov< rnment-in-exile.” Such a movement would be a rallying point for Hungarians opposed to the incorporation of their country within the Soviet orbit. What action the United States might take beyond protests to Russia and economic reprisals against Hungary was uncertain. Protests might be made to the United Nations but the possibility of any action appeared remote. o Come people grow under responsibility — others merely swell.
