Since Christianity is the only religion whose founder died and rose again. |n is clear that thin is the true religion. V. 19 "Then at the samw day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shot I ' where the disciphv were assembled j -for fear of the Jews, came Jesus | i and -t«od in the midst, and saith tic them. Peace be unto you. "Jesus tatdy l>ody was spiritualized so he entered the upper room when the ' door was shut. Jesus' common creeling was "Peace be unto you,"! !the best of all greetings V 20. "And when he had so said, he shewed unto th<-m his hands and his side." Jesus had the mark* of earthly indeniification. a suggestion of our resurrected life. In the presence of Jesus all fears are blasted and Joy follows:. V. 21. "Then said Jesus to them again. Peace be unto you; As my father hath sent me. even so send I you." Redemptive work results In peace which Is promised to hie disciples The disciples are commissioned to go forth as Christ's authoritative representatives. V 22. "And when he had said < this, he breathed on them. Receive ye tne Holy Ghost." The word (or breath and spirit being the Lame our l<ord showed how closely the Holy Spirit is connected with His person, being in fact the spirit of Jesus. Here was the consecration of tiie disciples to the ministerial office V 23. Whosesoever eins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; ami whosesoever sins ye retain, fney are stained. ’ The disciples were to declare with authority that sins would be forgiven under certain conditions. V. 26 “And after eight days again his disciples were within, and ‘Thomas with them; then came Jesus, and stood in the midst, and | said, peace be unto you." There was need of a fuller revelation of the risen Christ that all his disciples should (rear testimony to his resurrection. It was not so much to show doubting Thomae but to show that sufficient evidence is found that the fact that Christ arose will be believed Notice that Christ did not scold Thomas for doubting; he was patient and convincing that the truth might be perceived V. 28- “And Thomas answered and said, unto him. My Lord and my God." Thomas leaps iuto an unusal tonfession owning Christ as both Irnrd and God. Such a confession of Christ holds one faithful unto death. V. 29. "Jesus saith unto him, i Thomas, because thou hast seen I me. thou hast believed; blessed are they that have not Men, and yet have believed " It is better to be convinced by moral and spiritual evidence than by the evidences of i the senses. V. 15. "So when they had dined. Jeans saith to Simon Peter, son of Jonas. Invest thou me more than these? He saith unto him. Yea. Lord, thou knowest that I love thee He saith unto him. Feed my sheep." Peter in his thrice denial of the laird Is now being restored by a threefold confession of love That is divine if ft is expressed in the redemptive work of making Christians and caring for them. V. 16. "He saPh to him again, the second time. Invest thou me? He saith unto him. Yea. Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him. Feed my sheep." This ! time Christ omits the phrase "more i than these." The boasting Peter was changing Into the humble Peter Now Christ could use him in . seeing to it that the sheep, the professed followers would become strong. V. 17. "He saith unto him the third time. Simon. son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was giieved because he said to him the third time, iarvtwt thou me? and be said to him. Lord thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee Jesus saith to him. Feed roy sheep." Something happened in the life of Peter at this time that made him the boldest preacher of them ail and so Joyal ae to suffer martyrI dom may be tiansformed into a great family of God. o — The Better Way is the way that end* in immortality. There is an end to the earthly way. The body I is of the earth, earthy, and therefore is committed to the earth. But I since every legitimate call, such as hunger and thirst, is supplied with food and water, that legitimate call within to live on is supplied by immortality. We were created for eternity. God. who has made ample prov isions to supply our physical needs on earth, has made ample provisions to supply the need? of the immortal part of our life. The process of learning, of unfolding personality, in love and service will continue Easter points onward and upward He who will live at hie best will take the Easter road and go on unafraid.
