O' ———— Damage Suit Is Set For Trial March 26 Popcorn Company Is Defendant In Suit The February term petit jury panel is scheduled to hear its first and probably only trial of the current term on Wednesday, March 26. Adams circuit court records shoved today. The damage suit of Charles Dinger against the Confection Cabinet company, which wa« venued here from Allen county last December, has been set fur trial on that date. In his suit the plaintiff ask* for damages totalling 82.<w»0 one of the widely publicized “popcorn cases" filed in Fort Wayne. Dinger charges that he con traded with the defendant com pany to grow 3X acres of popcorn at |73 6b per ton: that he raised' corn valued at 11.508.9 S for which the company refused to pay. The law firm of Ik-Voss & Smith , are local attorney* ropresenting the plaintiff and D Burdette Custer Is local counsel for the defendant company. During the war years a number of youths in the Bahama Islands all subjects of Great Britain — came to the United States to replace the youths who left farms to take up arms. tb-orge Russell, now 21. who lived at Abeco In the Bahamas, was one of those. George came to Adams county and through the assistance of county agent L. E Archbold was employe! at the Dale D. Moses farm north of Decatur. There he met an<f fell In love with a neighbor girl. Art Ina Cable, •laughter of Walter Cable, a Root township farmer. George and Artina were married In November, I‘tla but his nine months visa into the United States expired soon after and he was ordered to return to his native Island. He and his bride both and tried, but they were unable to get ills visa extende I or renewed, and soon after thMr marriage he left the states. Mrs. Russel! never gave up She made several attempts to have him returned here, but in the maze of red tape. etc., that followed the ending of the war, she was never successful. Finally. Artina became convinced there was only one thing left to do — if she and her husband were to enjoy life as other married couples. w So yesterday she Imarded a train for Tampa. Fla. From there she planned to fly to the Bahama Islands. Yes. love found away. Movie Os Returning Gl’s Wins 'Oscars' Top Movie Awards Made Last Night Hollywood. March 14 tUPI—A simple movie about returning Gl’s. "The Be-’ Years of Our Lives," and the people who made the film walked off with nine gold Oscars last night at the movie makers annual academy awards presentation. And from the thunderous applause by the fur and tuxedo-dad audience that jammed the Shrine auditorium "The Best Years" deserved it ail. Oscars were doled out to the movie's leading man. Fredrlc March; Its producer. Simitel Gofdwyn; Its director. William Wyler, it - writers, film editors, musical scorers and supporting actor, Harold Russell. The only non-" Best Year" top winner was a breathless Olivia De Havilland. star of "To E.ich His Own." She snared an oscar for the best actress on her nomination. "I fee) humble as well as proud to accent this award for my coworkers," she said and named them all right down the line. March, whose role as a tipsy father i?i 'The Best Years" brought him a screen comeback, waa in New York for a stage play and didn't heir himself announced the best actor. Cathy O'Donnell, a supporting actress in the picture, accepted March’s Oscar and sniffled as If it was hers for keeps. Tfie biggest ovation of all went to Russell, a handles* veteran who walked off with two Oscars for his first and only picture when countless big stars would give their eye teeth for just one. The audience of 3.500 film stars and 3.200 laymen bumped elbows in applause for a full minute when Russell got a special Oscar. When he was called back later to receive another for best supporting actor, he wa. so overcome he only said: “Gosh two Oscars Is too much," and fled from the stage.
