To Announce Tourney Draw Next Friday — Indianapolis, Feb. 17 (I'Pt i East Chicago Washington's Senators were ranked first in Indiana high school basketbai i for the fourth straight week tod iy as the state's 7k! teams swung into the final week of the regular campaign. There appeared little chance that coach John llaritto's Senators would fail to finish the sea son undefeated against Indiana competition, and as the state'* top i ranking quintet Washington vlr-| tnally clinched that last week by beating first Huntington and then I Jasper. Lynn Waldorf Selected Coach I At California -Berkley, Cal. Waldorf as head coach of the school's football team. Waldorf, with 12 years of coaching serenity behind him at NorthWestern university, accepted the post vacated by the unceremonious firing of Frank Wickhorrt late yesterday in a surprise longdistance telephone conversation with Brutus K Hamilton, acting general manager of athletics. In taking the job. Waldorf said last night in Evanston. 111., that he wax giving up a "sure" job beanse California presents “a challenge unequalled anywhere-*' The 44-year-old gridiron mentor will come here Thursday to formally >ixn a tbree-year contract and thereby step into one of the most rabid football hotbeds anywhere. The salary terms were not disclosed, but Hamilton said they were "in line with California’s athletic policies.” Student pressure had much to do with the ousting of Waldorfs predecessor The touchy coach, once a se.-tmd string all-American tackle at Syracuse university, said | he wasn't interested m the athletic director's job which also is vacant.
