Yellow Jackets Lose To Kendallville Fivl
Jackets Lose Final NEIC Game Friday Po'irins 12 point* through the hoop In the la-t font minutes of play, the Kendallville Comets defeated the Decatur Yellow Jacket*, 46 to 36, on the Decatur floor Friday night in the final North-ast-ern Indiana conference game of tie season for the Jackets. The teini* wen- tied at 33 3.3 with only four minutes 1- ft to play, lint Preston stocky Kendallville guard, broke loose to drive under and score twice in rapid succession, putting his team four points on top. The Jackets, des perately attempting to obtain possession of the ball, left their defense wide o|M>n an<l the Comets kept pouring in baskets to pile up their nine-point margin. Kendallville took an early 4-2 lend but the Jackets camo back to hold a 13 to S margin as the first quarter closed. The Co.nets held the Jackets to three points in the second period while counting 13 to give Kendallville a 21 to 16 lead at the half time intermission. Decatur came right back with the opening of the econd half, and went Into a 26 to 24 lead The Comets rallied to take a 29 to 25 | lead but Decatur taino through with two quick fielders to tie th--count -it 29-29 as the final quarter opened. Shields was Kendallville's leading scorer with 19 points on nine field goals and one free throw. For Decatr. Beehler and Schnepf each tallied 12 points. The Yellow Jackets will play their final home game of the season Tuesday night, entertaining the Hartford City Airdales. Decatur's last two games will be on the road, at Herne February' It and at Portland February 21.
