W St. John. "I hereby tender my resignation as football coach tit Ohio State University. This de-Salon was made entirely on a former relationship there and for the interests of my family ’ "My leaving hat been made more difficult because of my high regard for you and for Richard I Girkina, your successor The fine friends I have made here I leave with deep regrgcL" St John replied that the r*-signa tion was "a matter of deep and sincere regret that 'Bit' feels it desirable to move." The retiring athletic director said Bixler had the complete support of the ad tniniatratlou at Ohio State Larkin reiterated St John’s statement and described Bixler ax "one of the finest men I have known.” The Colgate pout was left open when Andy Kerr announced last autumn that he would retire from active coaching. Rumors that Bixler, formerly K*rr's assistant, would return to Colgate have been plentiful since the Colgate coach attended the Ohio State-Michigan game here in November. Bixler, who also was head basketball coach at the New York University, came to Ohio State as an assistant coach under Paul Brown. He remained as assistant when Carroll Widdoes stepped up to the top spot in 1944, then took over the head coaching job in an unusual switch of Jobs with Widdoes last year. 0 H. S.
