I -o Republicans Demand Government Audit I Ask Complete Audit Os Democratic Rule I I ■■■ Washington, Dec. It—(UP)— ' Sen. E. V. Robertson. R . Wyo.. todsy demanded an independent audit of every government activity under the past 11 years of Democratic rule. Robertson proposed that the audit lie made by certified accountants responsible only to congress. He said the R«publlcan party ehould demand it before accepting responsibility for government afi fairs under their new congressional majority. Describing the government of the United States as "the biggest biisineM undertaking in the world." Robertson said: "I. for one. am not prepared to accept this nwponsibility until I know exactly the financial condition of thia business." Robertson compared the switch to Republican control us congress with 3 shift In management of a huge business enterprise. In this cane, he said, the Democrats were fired and the Republicans hired to take over. "We. of the Republican party, in order to do our Job, must know the financial condition of every department. bureau and loaning agency for which the new congress must appropriate money and tax the people," he said "We must have authentic financial statements on every phase of public endeavor. Without these we cannot intelligently plan our future course." Robertson said the audit should cover the entire period from March 4. 1933, when Franklin D Roosevelt first took office, through Dec. 31. 1946. He said he based his demand on the belief that the principles of I private enterprise, which made the United States a great nation, should ,<• applied <o government.
