Fat Waste Careless measurements, hit-and-miss method* and unreliable recipe* all may contribute to fat waste. A carelessly made eake that terns out an unappetising failure, tor example, Is a waste not only of tai but of precious flour and sugar. o - — Reap hcrape A good way to use old soap scrape is to grate them into chips on a household grater, or put them through the food chopper. Or they may be placed in water in a jar, and in a short time a bottle of liquid toap useful for many purposes will have been collected. Keep toilet soap scraps in one container for use as shampoo or for washing lingerie, and kitchen soap* in another for bard cleaning.

Ship Missing With 15 Crewmen Aboard Drifting Lifeboat Holds Two Bodies San Pedro. Cat. Dec. 3—(UP)— A last letter tram the skipper of • missing ship, whoae papers were found in a drifting lifeboat with two decomposed bodies, indlcsted today that he feared a mutiny aboard the vessel The 869-ton Costa Rican motor ship Pacific*, with 15 men aboard, had ant been heard from since It sailed from Guatemala Nov. 12. Coast guard officers believed it foundered In the violent storms which ewept the coast of lower California and Mexico last month. The steel lifeboat containing two bodies and papers of three men known to have been aboard the coastal veesel was sighted by the fishing boat Sun Beauty of San Diego and towed to Port Angeles. Mexico, 1.600 miles south of here The bodies were too decomposed td be recognlxoble. One appeared to have been dbimembered. one report said one ot the bodies was that of a woman. The papers listed the names of Capt. Kenneth G. Maclean, 53. San Pedro, master of the Pacifica. Alejandro Sehilla, 23, c<wta Rican interpreter for MacLeati. and Luis E. Benavides Rodrigues, 21, Coluin bis, an oiler. Mr*. Mac Lean said her husband's laet letter, written the day before he sailed, told her he had encountered “crew trouble.” Although one man who was In the brig when the Pacifica left here Sept. 29 was discharged, there were "several other bad ones," the letter said. After finding of the lifeboat, the navy eurvey transport U. 8. 8. Bowditch reported uncharted wreckage on the beach al Magdalena Point. 600 miles south of here. A coast plaue left Immediately to investigate. The Pacifica, owned by Jack L. Hook, Jr., of Los Angeles, and operated hy bin Marine Shipping and Trading Co., was carrying 104 tons of bananas and 100.VOU feet of hardwood on deck. Mac-Lean's letter expressed fear* that wilh the heavy load the ebip would "roll In a heavy sea like a drunken sailor on xkid row.”
Recover Fata Remnanta of cooking fat In eanz should be melted down and poured out for use before the can i( thrown away. The last drop of oil ihould be extracted from bottler Pan drlppingi left from cooking meat zheuld be tcraped out, and the part that has “browned on” loosened by heating with a Uttle water and then savsd tor gravy, soup or sauces. Too often these flavorful drippings go into the dish pan rather than ths gravy bowl. 0 Ca«lng Eggs Eggs should not be cased until they have been cooled to 85 degrees F. or less. The higher the temperature, the quicker the eggs should be gathered after they are laid. It may be necesaary to add moisture to the egg storage room, and this can be done by sprinkling the floor with water. Some producers are building a sand box with a slatted top to hold the egg baskets and cases, then are keeping the sand damp.
■crape Off Fat Give more attention to scraping dishes, pan* and containers ot fat. A rubber-tipped dish seraper of ths type selling again at kitchen supply counter* i* on* of the best utondi* for removing that last bit of f*t —or any other food. Trade In s Good Town - Decatur
