Hired Assassin For Wife’s Mercy Slaying Tells Authorities Negro Couple Hired 81. Louis, Nov. ll— (UP) — A calm, quiet-agokon garage mechanic insisted today that he paid a hired aaaaaidn 170 to put hie semi Invalid wife "out of her misery" and that he himself did not pull the trigger. Emil Hutsel. 37. told authorities he hired a negro couple to kill his wife. Margaret. 34. last Friday night because he could not stand to see her suffer. but could not bear to kill her himself. Mrs Hut sei suffered a paralytic stroke several months ago and Hutzel figured she would be "better off" dead, he said In a signed statement made to sheriff Arthur Mosley of St. Louis county. The slaying actually coat 1150. Hutael said. because another negro accepted money ‘‘to do the Job" and then double-croseed him. Hutael broke down under questioning and dictated the statement, the sheriff’s office said. Originally he denied knowledge of the slaying and had notified police that he found hie wife slain when he came home from work. Authorities said they did not know whether to accept Hutsel’* story or that of Thad Crawford, 30, negro, who Hutael named as the paid slayer. Crawford, they said, admitted being at the acene of the shooting hut said Hutael himself had shot his wife. Violence Continues In Palestine Area Jewish Extremists Thought Responsible Jerusalem, Nov. 18 — (UP) — Two officers of the British Royal Engineers were injured seriously today when a mine exploded near the Lydda airport, bringing the 24-hour casualty toll in Palestine to four dead and seven injured. The two engineers were injures while trying to remove mines from the vicinity of the air field Three British policemen and an RAF sergeant were killed, and five others were Injured last night when their truck hit a mine near Lydda. Palestine police brought in specially trained dogs in an effort to trail Jewish extremists believed responsible for planting the mines. The dogs were trained to pick up human scents from detonators and mine fragments. They led police Ir the direction of nearby villages, where officials said an investigation was unler
