American authorities at first discounted the story, believing it to be preelection propaganda. Conaervutlon club view point*l in Adam* county are changing. 1 tine of the objective* in u>ll»'-rva-tlon club work ha* been to try to provide fi-h. -mall Kame, and gams- bird* for sportsmen. For several year* the club ha* been obtaining pheasant* and qua!) from the state department of conservation and releaxitiK these bird* throughout the county. The club member* feel that without a doubt they have provided more game but are not at all aatixfied with their results. Something seems to be happening to the bird* before hunting neason, either they leave the area or do not multiply a* they xhould. Probably both of these < au*en partially account for the shortage of birds. Statistics from banded birds released in th',* area seem to indicate that the bird* have a tendency to migrate south and east Quail in pairs In hite summer indicate that nest* have been broken up. Both of these reason* for the shortage of game birds at hunting season seem* to be tied up with the following two causes, latch of food would tend to cause the birds to migrate. Lack of cover would account for bird* failing to nest or rests being broken up. Predatory animals are able to break up neats more easily in open or partially open areas. Sufficient heavy cover would give birds a chance to choose a ne*tlng location with more protection and result in more birds at the end each nesting season.
