Hoffman, a gum-chewing, high school sophomore from Ida Grove, la., saw his 1,250-pound, Hereford calf, T. O. Pride, converted Into gold before hla eyes last night In 16 minutes of spirited bidding at the American royal livestock and horse show auction. Hla young steer sold for 335.50 a pound. If he had sold it on the regular livestock market here. Hoffman would have received about 30 cents a pound, 8360. The purchaser, Eddie Williams, president of the Williams Meat Co., Kansas City, said the calt would he slaughtered and the meat distributed In the company's nornml trade channels. The price set a new all-time American show stock record and more than tripled the old record of 81115 per pound paid for the champion of the eaxtern states exposition at Springfield, Muss, In 1983. The rural youth club met October 17 *t the Geels barn west of Decstur. During a short business meeting, delegates to the state meeting, which will be held In November at Indianapolis, were se. lected. Hugh Ehrman and Vera Heimann were chosen by the group as delegates. After the business meeting, folk games and square dances. In charge of Rex DeHaven from Huntington, were enjoyed by all. After the games, refreshments were served to the members and guests present.
