Over $33,000 Paid In Wheat Insurance Insurance On Winter Wheat Now Available Winter wheat growers In Adam* county were paid 817.859.23 by the trderal crop Insurance corporation tor crop losses In 1942, Winfred L. Gerke, county AAA chairman, said today in discussing the current winter wheat crop Insurance program. The 1942 weason in this county ws* the worst for winter wheat losses of any of the six years in which federal crop insurance ha* been available, according to Mr. Gerke. Indemnities were paid to 260 growers, principally for losses due to winter kill. In other years, the corporation ha* paid Adams county farmers for losses due to the following haxards: drouth, flood, Insects. In sll, fsrmer* in this county have received 833.089.29 in indemnities since the program started. The 1946 wheat yields have been high on most farms. However, there have been several losses reported io tne federal crop insurance corporation. These losses were due to excess water. Mr. Gerke warns wheat farmer* that disaster may strike at any time and that It is better to have Insurance and not need It. than to need It and not have it. , insurance on the 1947 winter wheat crop againnt all unavoidable haards la now available to Adams county wheat grower* at the AAA office located at Decatur. It may lie secured until planting Hme but not later than September 14. Contracts signed this year will give protection for three years, 1947 to 1949.
