Decorated Dishes Bring Big Prices At Local Auctions
A deitiaiid for the rare old decorated dishes that used to adorn gisiiilinothei's cupboard and sideboard has become evident in De cutur and community, a survey revealed today. A check with those in attendance at recent personal property auction sales disclosed that many of the highly decorated dishes and plates which "went out with the bustle" are being sought by a particular group. Antique collectors and dealers are believed largely responsible, but in a few cases residents who are not particularly interested In antiques have gone into the higher bracket bidding. Moat unusual of the incidents reported is one which occurred recently in a sale near Decatur. When an old colored glass dish was offered, the auctioneer waa HI ■ I I - m— l ini .I— HU— —■»—MW— I—■ "foreign shipH would not observe the economic rules and re quin incuts imposed on American flag lines, and thus would upset the economy of the American merchant marine and offset some of the heavy investments made by government and private interests in th American merchant marine." Steve Quarles, of the central Lades and labor council of New Orleans, said the project would "destroy countless Jolts In the ■Missis ippi Vail y." He said it would affect longshoremen, dray clerks, teamsters, warehou emi-11, railroad clerks and rall.oad operating employes.
