Commies Beat Delphos Team Friday Nigh! Decatur's Commodores won a rip roaring 33 27 victory over St John'* of Delphos. o. Friday night on the Commie*’ hardwood. The game was nip and tuck throughout most of the first three Manias and It was not until midday in the third quarter that the locals were able to establish anything like a comfortable margin. Tit**" Buckeyes jumped into a f» o lead at the outset of the game, hut Hess* one hander from the shiv and a couple of quick baskets by Wemhoff, who relieved Wilder momentarily at center, plus Hackman's free throw, left them trailing only two points. 7-9 at the end of the first period. Hackman added one on Grothaus' foul and it was 31-34. Grothsu hit from in front and it was 31-26. but Wilder scored on a fast cut for the basket to make it 33-26. Schmelzer* free throw made it 33-27 just before the tilt ended. X. Lengerich led the scoring for the Vizardmen with 10 points on four field goals and a pair of free thrown, followed by Wilder and Hackman with seven points each. Auburn Beats Decatur Five In NEIC Tilt The Auburn Reel Devils, led hy a pair of veterans, Wattier and Hines, proved too tough for the Decatur Yellow Jacket* Friday night. Auburn walking off with a 52 to 28 decision on the Decatur floor. The Auburn victory broke a deadlock between these two teams for second place in the Northeastern Indiana conference, marking the Reel Devil's sixth victory against one defeat, and Decatur's second loss as compared to five conference triumphs. The* Jackets put up a tough battle for the 'first two quarters but could not equal Auburn's pace after the* half time intermission. The Red Devils, were qn front by only three |M>ints, 10 to 7 at lhe first quarter, and by five points at the half. 19 to 14. Auburn Icegan pulling away with the opening of the third quarter, however, and held a 36 to 24 margin as the final period opened. Offensively, It was all Wattier and Hines for the Red Devils.
