Athletic directors, faculty rep- | rexentativex and coaches of the j western conference entered the second day of their three-day exe< ufive sessions today Indicating I that the 10 conference schteds , will be just as strict with their athletes In the future ax they were during prewar years. Complete overhauling of the con-' ference eligibility codes, relaxed ! i during wartime, was scheduled for today but official announcement ; of the faculty representatives* action was not expected until tomorrow. The athletic directors voted yesterday. subject to the faculty men's approval, to recognize an official football champion each year. But they stressed it wax not a step toward permitting the winning team to participate in post-season contests. The conference last year turned down Ohio State by a 7 to 3 vote when the Buckeyes requested permission to play In the 1945 Rose Bowl At that time It was suggested that the Pacific Coast conference and the Big Ten tie tip in an an nau! post-season Hose Bowl arrangement. Following a suggestion made earlier this year by Fritz Crisler, Michigan athletic director and head football coach, the dir-ctors voted yesterday to annually recognize an official team champion in all sports which do not have allconference tournaments. Indoor and outdoor track, wrestling and awimming champions are determined through annual conference tournamenta while football, basketball and baseball fall into the non tournament classification. The winning team will be determined by percentage points, counting tie games as half a game won and half lost. Previously a tie game did not count In the percentage column. With faculty approval assured, the directors toted to start handing ont "official'' titlra next year. A "sportsmanship'* proposal by John Stocbnolh. university of lowa student and editor of the school paper, was accepted by the directora. Stlchnoth suggested a committee, made up of «m student
I from each conference school. Ih» oiganized to promote sportsmanship among the players, coaches amt students The student repr- sentntlve*. are to be selected hy the athletic direi’iorx of each school and they will , | meet to take action on a sports»manship award to be made iinnu- , ally In the memory of Maj.
