Committee Delays Questioning Davis Browder Appears At Communist Hearinq Washington, Sept, 27—(VP) — Earl Browder, deposed American (ommunLt party leader, teslfled today that American communists do not favor the •‘violent overthrow” ot the V. 8- capitalistic system, hut that he is a ••proponent of revolutions." •‘My country was founded by a revolution,” ho told the House committee on un-American activities. The committee Is seeking the low-down on the communist "das* war” philosophy. Browder resumed testimony after the committee Indefinitely postponed its questioning of Benjamin J. Davis. Jr., Negro communist city councilman of New York. A committee member explained that Davis Is running for re-election “and we don't want to Interfere with his campaign.” Under questioning by committee counsel Ernie Adamson, Browder testified that: 1. He never advocated transferring the center of communist activities from Moscow to the United States. 2. He never regarded either Mrw. Franklin D. Roosevelt or the late President Roosevelt a* communists, 3. "For the last 10 year-.’’ he has heard no communist leader officially advocate establishment of a Negro Soviet in the south. 4. Government Loan For Stored Potato Crop Indianapolis, Sept. 27—(UP) — Hoosier potato producer* will be given an opportunity to store thh year's bumper crop and obtain government loans from the Commodity Credit Corporation, A. P. Troyer, commodity loan head for the Indiana AAA commltlee, announced today, Troyer said the loan program was part of the- government's steps to Kupport the prices ot late potatoes. He pointed out that a bumper crop and a reduction in the demand for potatoes for the armed forces had necessitated government action to keep prices up to their guaranteed levels.
