Itx Planning Salvage Os Valuable Muck Land Permanent Salvage Planned By State Indianapolis, Sept. 11 — (UP) — The Indiana flood control and water resources commission took steps today to salvage permanently vafifable muck land in several Hoosier counties Secretary Clyde R. Black announced that engineers were studying areas in Jasper, Porter, Starke, Pulaski, La Porte and White counties. They will design a controlled drainage plan to assure greater use of the muck land, Black said. The commission’s plan would provide a year-round balanced drainage. During the high water season, excess water would be drained off while a pumping system would augment the muck areas when the need arises, Black explained. The muck areas are highly suitable for raising special crops such as potatoes, onions and mint, but value of the land has been limited due to the uncontrolled drainage problem, he said. Black said that the Muck land project was one of several water control programs now under consideration by the commission. Other projects [include a new levee at Delphi as a part of the Wabash basin flood control work. The commission is working on plans for a flood wall along the Ohio river near Aurora and flood control and sewage plans for Logansport. Consideration has been given proposals for new flood control units at Shoals, Spencer and Cagle Mills, south of Greencastle. Rep. Earl Wilson, R., Ind., has filed a petition seeking flood control work on two creeks near French Lick and the commission has studied the proposed diversion of Eel river near Clay City to pre-

The Maumee river near Fort Wayne and White river from Indianapolis to Noblesville would be made navigable it requests now before the commission are approved. Black expressed doubts concerning these projects, if the rivers were used only by pleasure craft. ■——-o — Grant County Farmer Is Suicide Victim Marion, Ind., Sept. 11 —HUP) The body of 37-year-old Camroil Vernon Cravens, Grant county farmer and house painter, was found today in an automobile parked on a country road.
