J SOCIAL ACTIVITIES LAUNCHED BY SCHOOL The social activities for the 1945- 1 1946 school year of Hartford town- 1 ship schools began Friday evening when trustee and Mrs. John H. * Duff, assisted by Mr. and Mrs. F. 1 J. Duff and Ivan Duff entertained at the high school for the county ' •superintendent, advisory board members, school faculty, bus drivers and janitors at a get acquainted and fellowship meeting in honor 1 of the new faculty members, who * were initiated by an entertainment committee composed of Mr. Cobb, chairman, Miss Sprunger, Miss ! Auguhurger, Miss Schlagenhauf 1 and Miss Glendenlng. An old fashioned school session 1 was conducted by the committee as teachers and pupils. ( Remarks were made by members 1 of the factulty, superintendent Hann and ex-trustee Baker. ( A song given by Miss Grandlien- 1 ard, dedicated to Mr. Cobb, was cleverly rendered. 1 Refreshments of ice cream, cake, wafers and coffee were served to all seated around a long table tas- ‘ tily decorated for the occasion. The Mount Pleasant W.S.C.S. will meet Thursday afternoon at two o’clock at the home of Mrs. Gerald Grandstaff. There will be a meeting ot the W.M.A. of Union Chapel church Thursday afternoon at one thirty o’clock at the home of Mrs. Glen Hirschy. A good attendance is desired. LADIES AID SOCIETY MEETS THURSDAY The Ladies Aid society of the First United Brethren church met Thursday evening at the home of Min. Ves Baker. Devotions were given by Mrs. Clarence Drake, Mrs. William Pennington and Mrs. Frank Bohnke/ During the business meeting, conducted by Mrs. Hubert Gilpen, sixteen calls were reported, and the work committee turned in thirty dollars. Mrs. Judson Passwater, Mrs. Elzey and Mrs. Drake were appointed to the work committee for September. Lovely refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Tom Fisher and Mrs. Willis Reed. Hostesses for the October meeting will be Mrs. Manley Foreman, Mm. William Strahm and Mrs. Floyd Death. The Better Homes ciub will meet Thursday evening at seven thirty O'clock at the home df Mrs. William Stucky. Members are asked to come dressed ae school children. Mr. and Mrs. Philip Carper have returned home from a few months visit with their sone and daughter in Monterey and Chico, Calif.

Baker General hospital, Martinsburg, W. Va. The latest citation is for exemplary conduct in action. Mr. Bailey’s wife and eon, Patrick, reside in New Martinsville, W. Va. Lt. Phil Byron returned td his duties in Cleveland, Ohio last night after a .short leave here. Mrs. George A. Foos hae received word that her husband, M/Sgt. George Foos, has reached his distination. M-Sgt. Foos is with Co. “D” of the 361st engineers regiment, special service. His regiment, after serving ten months in France, sailed direct to the Pacific. He is now on .Luzon. AWARDED AIR MEDAL First Lt. Robert B. Hunter, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd B. Hunter, 321 First Street, is now assigned to the AAF Redistribution Station No. 4 at Santa Ana army air base. Lt. Hunter, a B-17 pilot in the Bth Air Force with 28 combat mie■zions to his credit, entered the service on Feb. 24, 1943 and went oven eas in January, 1945. He has been awarded the air medal with three oak leaf clusters, the presi 1 dential citation, and the European theater ribbon with three battle stars.
