MARRIED COUPLES CLUB HAS “FARM FROLICS” Approximately thirty-five couples attended the Zion Lutheran Married Couples club “Farm Frolics” party last evening at the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Orley Walters. Musical entertainment during the evening was furnished by a quartet, composed of Karl Reinking, Hank Schamerloh, Bon Grote and Carl Bischoll. Various games were enjoyed and group singing was led by Phil Sauer. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Boknecht, members of the club who will leave Decatur soon, were informally bid farewell by the class. Delicious refreshments were served by the committee in charge, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Caston, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Krueckeberg and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Jacobs. The next meeting will be Wednesday, September 5, in the church basement. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Moeller, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sheets and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Krueckeberg will be in charge. frApJJJCALS Mrs. Charles Weber and sons, George ami Stanley left Wednesday afternoon for Tucson, Ariz., where they will spend several months because of Stanley’s health. Mr. and Mrs. Don Essex of Stuttgart, Aik., are vfeiting relatives here and over the county for a few days. The former is a brother of Harry (Peck) Essex. The condition of C. C. Schafer, who has been ill the past two weeks, is reported unchanged. Ed l.iechly, former editor of the Berne Witness, ha»; accepted a position as a teacher .of biology and social studies in the Jefferson township high school for the ensuing year. Eli Habegge'r of near Geneva was painfully injured Monday when he fell from a ear and was struck by a buckraki* which was attached to haul wjieat from the field. His right leg was broken and he suffered four broken ribs. He was taken to Berne for treatment and is reported to be recovering. Berne will hold a riding horse show at the ball park there on the evening of August 30. Ferd Peoples of Fort Wayne was having a good time today looking up old friends. Ferd has operated a cannel corn store at Pontial and Calhoun streets in Fort Wayne the past several years and decided to just close for the day and came back home. Shirley Lou Berling, who has been very ill with pneumonia, is% reported as much improved today. Mr. and Mrs. 1. Bernstein are in Sou’h Bend today, attending the funeral services of tho latter's aunt. Taylor, S 1/C, has arrived home from Banana River, Fla., to spend a 13-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mr ..Roy Taylor, 503 North Seventh street. He graduated from tho Decatur high school in 1943 and entered the navy in October, 1943. Before entering the service, he was employed at the Decatur Dry Cleaners and the Equity store. Seaman Taylor will report to Banana River for further assignment following his leave. — w Ensign and Mrs. Leo A. Braun are now living at the following address: The Flamingo Hotel, Room 305, Miami Beach, Fla. Ensign Braun is the son of Frank R. Braun, route 4. Decatur. W. M. Brunnegraff, E. M. 1/C of the U. S. navy, has written to his mother, Mrs. Catherine Brunnegraff, from Guam, where he is now stationed. He was formerly stationed at Honolulu, H. 1. Recently he met two Decatur marines, Pvt. Lee Gage, son of the late Bert Gage, and Pfc. Don Williams, eon of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Williams of 331 Eleventh street. The Decatur men met at an ice cream social on Guam. Petty Officer Brunnegraff stated that they had a lot of ice cream, but the party lacked the adornment of girls. He reported that the Decatur men were well and that he hoped to get back home in the near future. He has been in the navy three years. Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Meyer are pleased at news received that their son, M/Sgt. Robert Meyer, has been notified that he will be sent home on furlough and expects to arrive about September 1.
