Give Open Verdict In Elevator Death Soldier Husband Is Present At Inquest Rockford, 111., June 26—-(UP) — i'lnvestigation of the unsolved elevator death June 18 of Mrs. Ruth Blanche Campbell was pressed ahew today after a coroner's juiy returned an open verdict. The body of the attractive Mrs. Caihpbell, 38-year-old wife of a -erviceman, was found crushed in an elevator leading to the bachelor apartment of her employer, Cecil tßobbel, 45, operator of an electric appliance firm, a week ago. She was his secretary. Present at the inquest last night was Sgt. Phil Campbell, back from duty aboard an army hospital ship. Campbell, about to be discharged on service points, did not know of his wife's death until he went to her closed apartment here Sunday. ‘The coroner's jury, which recommended further investigation of the case, heard Robbel tell his story of spending the evening of the tragedy drinking with 'Mrs. Campbell and his divorced wife. Naomi GohIke. He said he and Miss Gohlke found the body shortly after Mrs Campbell left them. The 'Winnebago county grand jury has been called for July 5 to probe Mrs. Campbell's death, which occurred under circumstances strikingly similar lo that of a Rockford Memorial hospital nurse. Miss Mary Burton, 26, fatally hurt three years ago in the same elevator shaft. —o —— JAPS' POLITICIANS (Continued Prom Pa kg One) offer their lives “to the eternal cause of our country.” Previously he had announced that he would not resign tin* premiership when Okinawa was lost.
