Asbestos-clad fire fighters came to the rescue and both the pilot and gunner were saved. The pilot can be seen (arrow) in cockpit (1) as the prop gouges splinters from the deck, the engine cowling is ripped away and flames begin to spurt from the motor. The ship explodes into a mass of flames (2), and a piece of the cowling, shown in the air, is hurled off to the left The pilot and gunner are still in the ship, but in photo (3), the ship’s fire fighters shield the pilot from the flames as they help him from the cockpit; the gunner having already been freed. Crawling to safety (4), the pilot is helped by the fire fighters, while others quickly quench the flames. These are official United States Navy photos. POLISH LEADERS (Continued From Page One) millet: which arranged the conference attached so much importance to Witos' presence that it has addressed a second invitation urging him to make the trip if at all possible. , The message assured Wilos of "every medical attention,” the commentator said. A Moscow dispatch said the stage was "all set” for the trial of Jankowski and other arrested Poles. It will be Moscow's first public mass trial of international importance since 1938. Soviet courts have jurisdiction in the case by virtue of an agreement with the Russian-supported Polish provisional government in Warsaw giving the Red army control of supply lines and zones of military operations. Mikolajczyk was expected to ask immediate release of the ar- | rested men as a prerequisite to success of the unity conference. Besides Jankowsky, the group includes Gen. Bronislaw Okullcki, former commander of the Polish home army, and several men appointed to the London exile government by Mikolajczyk while he was premier. o The total stock of money in the United States last June 30 was $44,805,501,044.
