Quarantine Against Argentina Tightened 6 More South America Nations Declare War t- — j Washington, Feb. 15 — (UP)— ’ The quarantine of Argentina was ’ tightened today on the eve of the , inter-American conference in Mexico City—a meeting to which ’■ she has not been invited. 1 By the time the conference bel > gins next Wednesday in the Mex--1 lean capital, Argentina probably ;• will be the only nation in this f hemisphere not at war with the y Axis. ._ Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Paraguay raised themselves from c the status of associated to United - Nations yesterday by signing the United Nations declaration. All have declared war on at least one Axis nation. £ Venezuela and Uruguay, the only remaining associated nations in this hemisphere, are expected to become belligerents soon. Argentina was barred from the Mexico City conference because her sister republics refused to recognize what the United States calls the “Fascist military clique” in control of the government. She is now faced with the hard fact that she will have to sit out all other forthcoming conferences which will play the fate of the world for years to come. Her isolation in the world will become more and more pronounced unless she changes her ways. The United Nations will convene in San Francisco in April 25, to charter a world security organization. They will meet ■ again sometime after the war in > Europe to arrange a peace settle- - ment. Decisions which will vitally I affect Argentina, as they will 1 every other country in the world, t will be made at those confert ences. But they will be made 1 without the advice or consent of 3 Argentina if her present status continues. There was a recent rumor that - after all other Latin American V ’ nations declared war, Argentina then would be given a chance to ' make it unanimous and thereby . prepare the way for her return ■ to good graces. But secretary of ■ state Edward R. Stettinius, Jr., ' has revealed that k declaration of t war by that country will not be enough. He said the United States does ■ not contemplate any change in 1 its lion-recognition policy toward • the Argentine regime “until it • has been conclusively demoni strated by unequivocal acts that - there has been a fundamental . change of Argentine policy." | o The United States is served to- ! day by 375 airports linked togeth- ; er by 40,009 miles of airways employed in distributing air express matter, beside 27,000 civil airports ' of which 750 are suitable for air . express.

THE ENTIRE SOUTHERN FLANK of Germany’s defensive front in the east Is menaced by the mighty new Soviet offensive which has sent flying columns of Marshal Ivan S. Konev’s First Ukrainian Army spearing toward Berlin from lower Silesian bridgeheads 115 miles away. While die Soviet high command was silent on tills great central threat to Berlin, Marshal Gregory K. Zhukov’s First White Russian Army was reported moving up men and materiel for the final smash through the open terrain before the Nazi capital. The Silesian capital of Breslau was “completely encircled,” according to a London broadcast, while the Germans were reporting Russian forces thrown back by the Nazis in the Canth-Kostenblut area, preventing a union with troops driving northwestwards. The Nazis also reported a “big Soviet advance” to within 15 miles of the Baltic port
