Gas Rationing Cut Flayed By Emmert Indiana Attorney General Flays Cut Indianapolis, Aug. 18 — (UP) — The recent slash in gasoline rations has brought widespread protest* in Indiana. State attorney general James Emmert has described the move a* a needle** regimentation of the American people. And independent oilmen prepared to protest the action in a conference tomorrow with petroleum administration officials. Emmert chargen yesterday tnat the national administration had created a fictltloiiM gasoline shortage to regiment the nation. He said that oil-producing facilities of Texas alone could make up any deficiencies in the supply if a price increase on crude oil were granted to stimulate the drilling of wildcat well*. The attorney general also claimed that the nation used les* gasoline under voluntary rationing than under enforced rationing. However, the state auditor's office this morning produced figures which showed that Indiana used near1y'35.500.06n.000 gallons of gasoline during the tlrst six months of 1942. $75,000 Damage Suit Filed At Fort Wayne Railroad, Express Company Are Sued Fort Wayne. Ind., Aug 18—<UP> —A $75.04)0 damage suit has been filed at Fort Wayne against the Pemuylvania railroad and the Short Line* motor express company James Hawhee of Fort Wayne filed the complaint He says he received permanent injuries in an airtomobile acddi-nt October 16, 1941 near Columbia City, and he charge, that lioth companies were negligent in connection with tbc accident. The misphap occurred when spark* from a train ignited much 1 land along the highway and sent up I heavy cloud* of smoke which ob-1 uecured a view of the road. The I suit contends that a Short Line company truck halted Because of < the smoke but failed to pull oft to \ the side of thr road. Hawhee was a ' paseeuger in a car which crashed into the truck.
