Creamed Comments On The Sunday School Lesson
Creamed comment* on the Sunday School leaßon, The Chrtetian i View of Marriage —Genesis 2:18i 24; Matthew 19:3-6; John 2:1-5 for Sunday, November 1. Today s lesson Is the first of a series on the application of Chrisi tian doctrine to the family probi lent. Marriage |. ordained of God. I is sanctified by Him. is definitely I associated with the process of cre- > at ton i v. IS. "And the Lord said. It is not good that man should be alone; ' I will make him an help meet for him." God endowed human beings with social capacities and longings; God never permitted an In--1 nate longing to be unsatisfied; hence he provided an help meet. v. 19. “And out of the ground the Lord formed every to-ast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them; and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof” God honored man in letting him name the beast*. But there waa no companionship in i beasts that satisfied man. This > fact is suggested In verse 20. V. ». 21, 22. "And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; and he took one of bls ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib which the Lord had taken from man. made be a woman, and brought Tier unto the man.” The Bible sets forfß the sovereignty of God and it also glorifies man as a child of God. Because only out of man himself conid come a quality , of hie adequate for daily fellowship. God created woman out of man. Some one has remarked that woman was "not made out of his head to rule over him; nor out of hi* feet to be trampled ont by him; but out of his side to be equal with him; under his arm to be protected; and near his heart to be loved.” • v. 23. "And Adam* said, this I* now bone of my bone, anti flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman. becaube she was taken out of man.” The Hebrew of man to "i*h“ and for woman is "Isha” meaning manes*. Man and woman have the same divine origin and their union a* seen in marriage is aacred. The marriage tie is most sa< red liecause of the union of two lives to carry out God's purpose of creating life-physical life In the production of children, and spiritual, in the fellowship husband and wife have with each other. v. 24. "Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh." Something of the parental home is sacrificed In order to start a new home. Hear as the parental tie may be. the marriage tie is stronger. Monogamy. a state in which a man has one wife is here Implied. The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him. "Is ft lawful for a man to put away hi* wife for any cause’” Two different answers were held by two contending parties and if Jesus answered in either the affirmative or the negative he would be in trouble. v*. 4. 5. "And he answered and said unto them, have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female. And said for thte cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to hl* wife: and they twain be one flesh.” Jesus now stresses the teachings of the Old Testament emphasizing fidelity and that spiritual union that forbids* any martial change. v. (. "Wherefore they are no CHURCH PAGE SPONSORS THE FIRST STATE BANK Oeneral Banking -0 HOLTHOUBE DRUG CO. Highest Quality - Lowest Price* -0 DR. H. more twain, but one flesh; what therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.” Marriage is more than a civil contract. Because marriage is an institution established by God. those who choose to enter into that relation are Ln a very real sense joined by God. and they are duty bound to abide hy the law of God relating thereto. v*. 1. 2. 3. "And the third day there was a marriage In Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there. And both Jesus and them to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him. they have no wine." Jesus honored the marriage ceremony and the marriage relationship. There arose an occasion because of the lack of wine which was a social embaraasment. almost a disgrace. This wine was unfermonted grape juice. The beginning* of this new home were not to be marred and so Jean*’ mother Interceded help from Jesus. o— I Preliminary plans have been drawn up hy the general comtnisalon on Army and Navy chaplains to launch a serie* of Christian missions In training camp*, conducted on the order of the •undenominational preaching missions held in various cltle* throughout the country during the past several yean* The first of the»e mission* is *cheduled to be held In the near future at Fort Belvoir. Va. The Christian World Mission convocation. scheduled to be held In Cleveland. Dec. 6-10. has been postponed to "as early a date as domestic and international conditions may make potMible.” It was announced last week by Dr. Emory Ro*s, secretary of the Foreign Missions conference ot North America The transportation problem and the "impossibility of bringing from Asia, Africa and Europe missionary and national representative* to make the convocation an International mieting” were given as tbs cause* for postponement. The brutality of Nazi religious persecution In Poland has been unparalleled anywhere, according to the report. Eight hundred Polish priest* have been executed by the Gestapo, murdereil without trial or torturerl to death, and about 3,000 priests are now in concentration camps. In th<- Polish city of Poznan only three of 77 churche* ami chapels are open and seven whole dioceses have been liquidated. Acts of savagery. including a wholesale mas **err» of clergy in Potm-rania and Pcznania during which some of the victim* were buried while they still gave signa of life, are also reveab ed. Mennonites comprise 37 7 percent of all men in conscientious objector camp*, according to figuro* compiled by the Mennonite central committee. Os the 2.972 G. None of the other sects had more than 10<> when the compllutton* were made. o Oim PwacHßt ’ Conviction of sin and conviction of responsibility are two essential driving forcer in human lite. The ■rat bring* one tnto forgiven relations with God while the second makes that life fnittfal. You may judge your worth by your conviction*. but other* will measure you by the expressions of your conviction* Beware ot covering up sm and of svadMMt reeooiteUMUty. o When we tail to be at our best we hurt not only ouiselves, but we hurt others.
