Office By Jack Guenther • 4 ( New York. May 21.—(VP)—A , pair of the most remarkable legs | of our Hine will be displayed pub- 1 llcly for a brief spell tomorrow 1 when rapid Robert Pastor, the ni- ' jinsky of Saratoga Springs, at- 1 tempt* to demonstrate the finer 1 points of the gavotte, shag and:' banny hug to a most unwilling' pupil an awkward youth with the 1 awkward name of Tami Mauriello. ' The event Is billed as a heavyweight elimination bout and in a sense this advertisement is true. Pastor is a heavyweight and Mauriello will be eliminated It will en- . dure no more, and pomdbly less, than 15 minutes but many thous ands of terpsicbo.-ran enthusiasts will come along to alt and stare in open-mouthed wonder. Those legs , fascinate 'em The lego won't rival those of ' Marlene Dietrich in the matter ot ' comeliness or allure. They are shapely as sausages, smooth as a redwood branch, and they are covered with fur, yet. you can run the gamut from Alsab to Zorina without Hndlng a set more valuable. Before the summer is out they may ! be worth 11.0U0.000. They are Pastor's legs, of course. They are the gummy gams with which the stocky New York heavyweight bicycled away from Joe Ixvuls five years ago and they are the limped limbs on which he moved for 11 rounds against the J champion three years ago. And today the ya re the same legs which

have brought Pastor back to the top when he should be merely a memory. "I've taken care of them and , now they are taking care of me," * Pastor told me today aw he finished training for Mr. Maurlelio. “Andi I'll toll you something more--these | legs will take care of Mr. Joo, too. When we get into the ring thin summer I'll beat Mr. Joe because my legs will out last Mr. Joe's legs. My legs are still wtrong. Hix are weakening." Always an optimist when he speaks of Louis he Is the only man ever given a chance to tight the champion a third time-—Pastor didn't talk much about the fight which Is cut out for him tomorrow night. Mauriello just doesn't excite his imagination. Thin bout is only |Hsrt of a week's work. What makes it different is that it involves a pretty expensive gamble. Actually. Mauriello has about an much chance as an Annapolis plebe whistling “Anchors Aweight” in the quad st West Point the day before the army-navy game. He juet doesn't figure. He in big and awkward and not overly gifted with the ability to think on his feet. But he does have that one great equaliser —a pretty rugged punch. Pastor's manager, the leatherthroated James J. Johnston, seems unworried. This is a trifle unusual because any manager who Is risking a |500.000 gate In a >30,000 warm-up should be worried. But Mr. Johnston, who han never been known to be at a loss for a word, had a ready answer. If Pastor can't whip Mauriello. he says, he would be killed by laiuia. Pastor can whip Mauriello and he will, by a margin a« wide ax Michigan boulevard. But accidents do happen in a ring and even — check Billy Conn In a kitchen. 80 I suspect that Pastor will rely more on his legs against Tarnl than on his fiats He will waits, fox trot and two-step like Arthur Murray himself and win nine of the to rounds. Jusi iiow Pastor's legs matlhge to stand up is a question which never will be settled along I aim mere' Lane. Home members of the mob say they are made of rubber and If ever melted down would provide enough material to re-tread every tire in Brooklyn. If there are any tires in Brooklyn Others say they are out atted with coil springs Whatever, they are wonderful. They aren’t wonderful by accident, however, as Pastor says, he has taken care of them. Ho has don. this by walking or skiing no ime than seven miles per day L.r the pest five years. Sometimes be goes as far as 14 miles a day — through the rain, the snow or the sleet Instead of wearing out. the legs have grown springier and bounder by the year. It could be that Mauriello—who tiaa knocked out almost M awncan land a clincher on the Pastor’s chin But even if be does. 1 don’t think he cm win. A good many better men have hit the bullseye before while boxing Paator. but nobody has ever knocked him down for the count. Nobody. Which is more than even Mr. Joe himself ca naay great champion that he b. • "I take earn ot the legs. - Pastor says, “and the legs take care at men." —■ e HOMS RUNS - I York, Tigers | Williams Rad 80s | DI Maggio. With the title from the last three tourneys tucked away under their collective belts, th* Jacket diamond nine will attempt to make It four in a row. The Bluffton Tigers and the; (Hartford City Airedales op«n the tourney at the Parlor City Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock.
