About two-thirds of this tonnage was in the form of muriate of potash (60-63% KiO), a form highly concentrated to reduce the Farmer's fertilizer freight bill. Immediately upon the outbreak of war in 1939, the American Potash Industry began a rapid increase in production capacity.
