Tha Infancy and Boyhood of -leave. Luke 2: 15:40; 2:M. 40 far Sunday, January 11. Little la recorded of the babyhood of Jeaua; thia may be so that the more significant facts ot his life might gain prominence In our thinking. We must rememlu*r that some of these significant facts are his divinity, hie mission, his love for all. his living an ideal life, his resurrection, the hlght way of living demonstrated. V. 25. "And, behold, there was a man In Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting tor the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Ghost was upon him” Because Simeon was Just and devout, he could Interpret the sacrificial system of the old covenant and the spiritual teaching of the p-ophets as a true preparation for Christ. Simeon's eyes had been turned toward the Messianic dawn. After conae<Tatlon comes the work of the Holy Ghost. V. 26. "And II wa« revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before ne had seen the Lord's Christ.” Such revelations were made by a dream, or by a voice or by a silent suggestion; however, the "how" is not so important as the fact that God spoke to man. Christ will always be found by those who truly seek him. To find Jesus as one's Raviou*- .irepares one for life now and hereafter, making death but a stepping stone in the onward spiritual progress. V. 27. "And he came by the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought In the child Jesus, to do for him after the cus'om of the law." Ceremonies, rituals and sacraments have an important place in the life of the church and its members; they are means of grace and not ends in thmw.ives. Va. 31. 29. "Then took he him up In his arms, and blessed God and said l*ord. now. lettest thou thy servant depart In peace, ac.ordlng to thy word." Since Rlmeon's one desire had been satisfied, he was willing to close his days on earth. When all is well with the soul, one can face death in peace. V. 30, 31, "For mine eyes have seen thy invitation which thou hast prepared before the face of all people." To sec Jesus truly is to see salvation for he works out the program for all who will serve h'm. To accept Jesu< is to accept the program. Today we are seeing destruction of man because that Is the program of the evil one. V. 32 "A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel." The gosp -l to the Gentiles Is light to them because it reveals the great truths of God dispelling moral aud spiritual dadtness. V. 33. "And Joseph and hh mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him." .Not even Joseph and Mary really understood Jesus fully. To bo his dlscipi-t is to Irani aiumt him daily; every one ought to enroll in the churcii school to learn more of the Way of Life and to grow spiritually in faithful attendance in the services of public woi ship. V. 34. “And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother. Behold thia child la set for the fall and rising again of many In Israel; and for a sign that shall be spoken against." Simeon liko all God's children was filled with praise. Christ Is the test —by faith In Him men shall rise or fall by unbelief. V. 35. "Yea. a sword shall pierce through thy own soul alto that the CHURCH PAGE SPONSORS THE FIRST STATE BANK Central Banking O—O HOLTHOUBE DRUG CO Highest Quality * Lowest Prices. —o DR H. V. 39. “And when they had perI formed all thing* according to tha law of the Lord, they retained into Galilee, to their own city Nasareth.” After attending the jervlcea of worship each one needs to return to hl* home to express himself li< Christian service.
