TEA FEATURES RESEARCH CLUB CHRISTMAS PROGRAM The Christmas program of the Research club was given in the form of a tea at the home of Mrs Arthur R. Holthouse yesterday afternoon. twenty-two of the members attending. Mrs. C D. U-wton was the chairman ami gave a paper on the observance of Christmas, assisted by Mrs. I*eonard Haylors, Mrs. John Parrish and Mrs. I*amoill.< Fogle Mrs. Lewfon sketched the history of the observance of Christmas, stating. "It seems possible that December 25 was established as the festival day for his holy birth liecause it mark<*d the day of a much more ancient festival, th • winter holiday when the pagans were merry In a very pagan way. ChrMtmas replaced this olds pagan festival season". Mrs Saylors expressed "Merry Christmas" in other tongues and

WOMAN'S CLUB CHRISTMAS PROGRAM HELD MONDAY The Woman's club Chrlstmns prog t rnm was given Monday evening in the lecture room of the Library. The Junior Women presented a program of Christmas carols, their origin, and scenes of the Nativity. Miss Madeline Spahr and Miss Peggy Staley described the circumstances which brought about the writing of a group of the more famous Christmas carols; these carols being sung by a group of Junior Women. During the program three scenes were presented depicting the Shepherds and the Angel; the Madonna and Child with Joseph and the Angel; and the Three WUernen bringing their gifts to the Christ* child. Miss Evelyn Adams was chairman of the program Proceding the program a short business meeting was held during which Miss Bernice .Nelson read a Christmas letter from Mrs. Gunnells of the family relations committee.
