In her lap is a copy of “Oliver Wiswell.*’ A bookmarker shows that she is about a third of the way through It “It's the first novel Fve ever read,” says th* starlet. “It’s history, you know. Th* school recommended it.” Mostly, declares Shirley, she reads juvenile mystery stories. Her special favorites are the Nancy Drew series. However, just before school closed, she joined th* “Book of the Month" dub. “Mother still get* most of th* books.” admits the star, dimpling, “but I did read part of 'Berlin Diary*."
