O—O If a lair Is given next year tin re should be more emphasis on the display of Decatur and Adams county made goods An entire block could easily be thus devoted to the interest of every one. O—O Cut the weeds. It's the time of year when they cause hay fever and other ailnn-nts and besides they give a rough appearance to your property, (let rid of them before the authorities have to take actfdn. O—o You can get an auto license for the rest of the year for just half the annual coat. If you haven't been using the old bur, get it out and enjoy the rest of summer and the beauties of autumn In Indiana It's worth the money. O—O Keveral of the alleys, of the city need paving or oiling badly. The dust aa a result of the long dry spell is a serious thing and we know of a number of people who cannot open the windows of tbeir homes <m account of IL , Kains are needed to save a billion dollar corn crop in the middle went but the weather men give little encouragement. Looks as though we will have to send for that Indian tribe that guarantees result* and has a long record of never falling. o -o Chase the hoboes on to other pastures. We notice several who have been areuqd here now (or a month. They are no good to the commanKy *«4 it* time for them to take np clUxenahip some where elao or go home where the welfare organMttioas will care for them
In another month you will be thinking about fall and winter and every thing you prepare now for that period, will be of value Get the fuel bln filled, fill the larder with canned goods, plan to have an extra supply this year It may sav<- you money and it will at least give a feeling of confidence. O—O During the first four month* of this year more hables were born tn th.- United States than in any similar period since 19*0 Those engaged In the manufacture of baby buggies and who had about concluded they would shift to the wheeled chair line, are now busy trying to analyse the cause of the sudc.en increase in baby laipulatlon The fight against marijuana will go on under auepues of the federation of Women's (Tubs They should have your complete cooperation for it Is important that this •-ed be extei minated for good Along with it we hope they take the ragweed that spreads lllneaa to so many but whether they do or don't do that we hope they are successful In putting the .Mexican weed out for good. Q—O— ■ Some business concern* made money last week while others did not. Much of that was due to the demand of food and drink, hut also we believe that som.- special effort would improve the situation for every on. There are some important < hanges that should Im- made if w. are to continue the fair and these ought to be seriously dis.ussed right now while every one has the iarts and data in mind O—O Auction school students from all over th. country are here for the j three weeks intensive training at the Keppel t school. They will receive valuable instructions and it they devote th--mselves earnestly to it and then go out with determination they will find themselves in great demand in this line of sakwmanship now as it always has been a very popular business. W- • welcome the men to this community and assure tb. in every effort to make their stay hen pleasant as well as instructive. Merchants should patronize their home newspaper, not just occasionally but regularly. A community is frequently judged by its home paper. not only by how much news is contained therein but how much it la supported by the merchants We enjoy all the thrills of publishing a paper but it la also necessary that w>- have sufficient advertising to make it possible. We don't want you to use our columns unless it pays you hut every teat we have made shows that those who do get wonderful results. Try it aud watch the results. O—O The federal tax bill as passed by the house thia week will provide more than three billion dollars and about every one will help pay it, on.- way or another. However to the ordinary citizen It will not lie aa serious as the headlines may make you think. You will have from fMsi to *2.000 exemption, lies ides the *fm> for each dependent and unless your net income is several thousand dollars, you will not be hurt much. Most noticeable will be the added tax on telephones, automobiles. entertainment fees. etc. The tax will be easy compared to other nations and if it doesn't get worse, we will all take it and smile. O—O The death of Henry Rentschler, 74. Hamilton. Ohio, removes one of the active aud successful business men of the middle west. He was the secretary-treasurer of the Hamilton company and the Decatgr Castings Company and was known here because of bls frequent business trips to the city. He aud a brother, (Jordon, founded the Decatur Castings Company plant in I*6o. Their father had started the foundry and machine basins** at Hamilton which grew to be one et I the largest in the country and so»

I was asked to meet two of the cruaadera last Saturday, One of these farmers had 600 acres of land and had wheal on 240 acres thia season By leaving 6(* acres lay Idle h* was in line with the AAA program. thus he received a nice little gift from the government. They knew before the crop was sown that the penalty would be 49c per bushel Too bad We <ou!d not have been given that same Information These farmers < lalm if we do not fall in line with them they will run competition with us by raising corn and hogs Ten "to 15 bushel* per acre b> a uig corn crop in the west so we should worry about those threats Anyhow, if they would go in the hog businw* that would help to get rid of the surplua wheat, then too. by increasing hog production here the governmeut would not have to buy bogs from Canada to help take care of our meat supply. These men < lalm that the AAA hat made the price of wheat what it is but they seem to forget the sac t that before there was an AAA program <ba<k in the twenties! corn was fl.Ot* per buahel and in 1924 wheat was *l5O per bushel, right at harveat time Two years ago We were getting 99 cents pci hundred for milk aud today were getting arouud *2 vo pet hundred for the same product Last tall when combining started, beans were around cents per bushel, today they are 6133 pei bushel. About a year ago hogs were ranging from 6 to 7 cents, today they are between 11 aud 12 cents.
