Headline — Greece Strips Sis Army Generals. Sounds more like a poker game. —o Mother's Day will be appropriately observed ui tbe < hur< hes Sunday and homage paid by mankind to tbe most sublime and lovable creature on earth. —o Weather observers predict that Indiana is facing th. worst drought in 47 years, the scarcity of rain being felt throughout the middlewest At that rate we ll have few May Sower*. for April was about us dry as July. Airplane production m this country was about l ion units last month and President Roosevelt has called on tUb secretary of war to urge manufacturers to step tbe output to double that, or to a point where America controls tbe air. In the interest of defense, ail speed should be mad to that goal. The sale of National Defense stamps and bonds is proceeding splendidly in this city. Ou« investor bought a 15. "ov bond, which pays 2'a percent interest per annum and is redeemable at face value if held for 10 years. The First Slate Bank and the Post Office are cooperating in the sale, making tbe purchases easy and convenient. If w« recall the weather chart ot a year ago. tbe country augured from too much rafn and farmer* had difficulty in getting out crops. Part ot the sugar beet crop was drowned out in this territory. Prognosticators then claimed it was due to shooting off iKtmbs In Europe. The war has reached a higher tempo thia year, so tbe formula is bunk. —o Along with clean-up week and getting rid of oid tin cans and rubbish piles, let's build new sidewalks tn the city, tear down unsightly shacks and unsightly looking objects. All civic effort should not stop with the end of clean-up week, tor there is a hundred things to do in beautifying the town and makmg It a better place in which to live. —o—o—- — state highway crew is doing a good job in keeping Second and Monroe streets, in tbe uptown district and other streets In the residential district over which slate routes pass, clean and well swept. Nothing adds to the appearance of a town as much as clean streets. The business district looks spic and span and tbe hoys are entitled to a band. o—o—The friends of Rev. George Loxlor. inside and out at bls congregation. are pleased to learn at his reassignment as pastor of the First
I Evangelical church In 'his city. Rev. LaMM«*r will begin bl.' sixth I *ear as pastor here. He baa seen is sealous worker In bls ihurch. I devout Christian and a splendid cltlsen. contributing to the spiritual uad civic life of the lornmun ity. —o A Hoosier-born pilot flew one of I th, u> w army's Lockheed planes «o fast the other day that a crowd i of bti.voo gathered to sec- it mi»sed ' the air-bird. The plane was out of ' night before tbe people beard the ; sound of its motors. Tbe top speed of th* plane, which is not known, is powered with one of the inarvel- : uua Allison liquid-coolvd engines How would you like to be chased with It up in tbe skies? Could there be anything political about Senator Brooks stumping the country, att- mptlng to tell Americans what should lie done Ln the way of national defense, how to uphold the principle of democracy and run the government. He has been in th, senate only since last January, never held high public otlice before and we doubt if he Is able to hud bls way around Washington. He sounds like the mouthpiec. of tbe Chicago Tribune. o—o To provide a record of tbe graves I of ex-service men. Adams Post No. I 13 of tbe American Legiou is spon- . soring a worth-while project, seeking information as to tbe burial place <»f every former soldier in the I county. The aid of relatives. I friends and the public in general is ' solicited so that an official record | < an be compiled and kept in Legion 1., adqnarters. It is tbe desire of I th* Post to appropriately mark th* i grave of . very soldier. ( —o-o— Two r tired farmers who helped • ‘ develop farm areas in Adams coun-1 ty. passed from the scene this j week, death claiming David J. Dill- ' ing and William Grote, members of pioneer families of this community. Mr. Dilling served as a form- i er county commissioner and was I i active here for a number ui years, j | Both m<-n had a reputation tor inI dux try and enjoyed a wide friend- | ship in this and Allen county. They i resided in Fort Wayne at the time of death. If some of these political orators of tbe American First Committee heard that school teachers were teaching their own children that tbe President of the United States, the cabinet and congress were traitors. they would raise bet k. We believe in freedom ot speech. but doubt if It is good Americanism tor these numerous self-serving committees to question every act of governm- nt and imply that the country la being sold down the river. Was Commodore Decatur wrong? O—o Farmers In this county are cooperating intelligently and helpfully with the government programs, aimed to help agriculture now and to build a more prosperous condition in the future. This country now has a surplus ot grains and food stuffs, but it will be only a year or two until we will be called on to feed the world. Those who understand the purpose of govern-ment-aid programs are enthusiastic in their support ot them and see tbe benefit of proper agriculture planning during tbe next several crucial years. e—* —— The information about Nasi naval leases in Booth America is all tbe more important to readers of tbe Daily Democrat, because the story was given tbe United Press by Dr. Paul A. Biple of Erie, Pa., who visited here in 1935 during Centennial week. As a Boy Scout. Mr. Siple went with the Byrd expedition to the South Pole sad was in charge of the recent exploration, returning to the United Stalos this week. His information Is no doubt correot. for Siple is a man who would not bo oe attempt to scare tbe American people.

Another admin iat rat lon official said the 30 to 3V commert lai planes obtained in last week s survey of surplus airline equipment and being delivered to Great Britain, probably would be used to transport troops aud equipment in the near east.
