NEW TRIAL IS DENIED HARTER Convicted Peru Banker Is To Be .Sentenced Friday Morning South Rend. Ind.. March 20 — I ili.RI — Donald H. Harter of Peru, former secretary of the Wabash Valley Trust company of Peru who 1 was found guilty last week of vlo- ' Ist Ing the national banking act. will be sentenced by Judge Thom I as W Slick In federal court Friday I morning. Judge Slick late yesterday overruled motions by defense attorneys for arrest of a Judgment and a new . trial. Harter. *2. was found guilty ( by a Jury on nine of 1« counts In an Indictment against him charg- I tng misapplication of bank funds and embeaxlement. He is liable to a 25.000 line and a tlve-year prison term on each count. Defense counsel requested that sentencing he delayed until Friday to permit them to obtain an appeal bond set by Judge Slick at IIS.OMI They plan to have Harter's conviction to the circuit court of appeals in Chicago.
