This I* either another Indian •uutuiti or a cuutmuatluu us the one which atarted a luuutb ago Either way It's delightful. O—Ou— You can have fuu inarching in the Calithuuipiau parade or you can have a good time wat tiling them. Be sure to applaud those you like best. o—o — Indiana Uow has more telephone* and more automobiles than ever iu her history, indicating this Is a busy and prosperous, talking, riding Hoosierdom —o Mr. Hoover and others are urging that this nation sell "defensive” weapons only, which i* tine except no group will agree on what is defensive and what is offensive —o Don't destroy property in your search for fuu at the Halloween season. That eauses others so much inconvenience and trouble that it surely spoils the fuu of the prankster. —o Think of a new idea for your Halloween garb. That's what wins the prizes. Join up with some one or a group. Get a band ready for the event. That's what will make it good, a lot of competitiun. —o Zoning ordinances that control the location of business in residence districts and otherwise governs the building of homes and business clocks are being adopted iu a number us the smaller cities iu Indiana. o—o Much good advice to the children who ride bicycles which can also be used effectively by older riders, is manifest on the posters, prepared by high school students and displayed In the various windows. The boys and girls show they have good ideas and knowhow to put them on cards. —o You can make a splendid investment by buying the *350.000 worth of Decatur power and light bonds next Monday. They are good and the payments will be promptly paid. The motley is a part of what the city will expend to make the local plant one of the best in the country. u— o ■■ After all it's hard to understand wiiy U-boat* from any nation should be "monkeying around” within the three-mile shore limit of thisT country. If they must come in they should do so above water. We are a nervous lot of people and It doesn't help any tu have the undersea boats snooping around here. Business continues to improve according to every barometor but it will be well to remember that booms are uot good in the long run. Better prices tor crops, more business activity Is always a good thing but should be held in check The higher up we go, the greater
the drop when It tome* as II always doe* eventually. —o— Every week should be safety I, week. The boy or girl whu tries to show how clever he or she Is , by rliling without holding to the handle bar, who takes chance* In H < rosslug streets against the lights, j who tall* to obey the trathe rule*, who carries others on hi* bicycle, „I Is taking a serious chance. Active in church, club and civic so • cieties she was fur years one of the leaders of Decatur. As a member of the board of children s i guardians she wai faithful and I willing as was evidenced by the »I fact that she was retained for more than a quarter century. We of- | bereaved family. —o Those toot ball fans who tigvred : Pittsburgh would lie a push over this year because of the ruckus over inducement to players last year and the resignation of the famous couch, Dr. Sutherland, must team, coached by Charley Bowser, a war vet who is showing his stuff. With only a few of the regulars i left Bowser quickly built a team that has defeated Washington. West Virginia and Duke decisively 1 I and has an eleven that is unde- , seated and untied. —o Farmers who are interested in I control of the corn borer and that | should mean every farm iu this | part of Indiana may gain valuable information by attending the tricounty plowing contest at the Harold Stasscl farm hi Allen <<>un--1 ty October 31st. In one contest 1 nine tractors will jiarticipate and ' in another three teams. The State sei farm is two miles east and live miles north of Monroeville. The borer has made gains In this territory In recent years and many farmers are awake to the seriousness of the situation. It can be corrected by uniform fighting. o—o In last year's city election in Fort Waytie an independent ticket was put in the field. They made some ballyhoo but when election ' day came, received only MO votes. Now it is announced they will 1 spread out and have a state ticket for 1940 with a prominent attorney, name unannounced, as a can- ■ didate for governor. Third parties t never get tar except they do muddy I the political waters some uud ! usually are originated for some ! particular reason. What that purI pose is has not been made clear yet but no doubt will be before the •[campaign gets very far along. •
