Pity the poor ball player who. has to do all his work right out in the sun and some ot them only get <25.000 or 130.000 tor eight months work. Don't start shivering but we notice the football squads are to report in three weeks and we always connect that sport with the sport Jacket season. Cut the weeds on the vseant lots, or anywhere you find them, in town or country. They look bad and are dangerous, causing hay fever and shutting off the views at crossings. Automobile sales are forty per cent higher for the first half of 1»3» as compared to a year ago. according to a report from the j , national department of commerce. Times surely are not so bad. if some of the slates like Maine I and Vermont want to have two Thanksgiving holidays. It's O. K with most folks, but tor several years they could do all their thank ing in one day. figured politically. Start neat week off with an advertisement in this paper. It does not coat much, reaches from 15.000 to 30.000 people whp live In thia trading radius and is by far the best and moat effective means of reaching your customers. Whatever they may say, we don't believe president Roosevelt changed the Thanksgiving date tor any personal reasons He did It he. cause he was asked to do so by the retail business men who believe It will be better for Christmas business. Hot weather effects people In various ways. Bom- say they like I' and can work better While others become listless and find it difficult to keep lip their pep About all we can tell you ia to not be too gay with old Hol and not overdo taking sun bathe. It can knock you out completely, some one happens to ask you wh'-re he can buy akohollc bever- •*"" Illegally, better tell him you don't know, Indiana has a new law that prohibits that kind of informailoii i»ehig given out promlaoualy i and "Buddy Boy Hamilton " at Fort Wayne fined silo tor such an offense by Judge Sr hannvn. Editorials In some of the Republlran nrwspapeta indicate that while the Idea of observing Thanksgiving a couple of weeks earlier so aa not to interfere with the Christmas holidays may have merit, they are "agtn" it because President Roosevelt made the announcement without advising with them. Then we howl until we j
get them back The street has been repaved by the state highway department without cost to property owners or the city. Paul McNutt is not a candidate for the vice-presidency, according to the manager of bls campaign. Frank McHale. It's the White House or nothing and his friends believe he la big enough to lead the nation, la-aders In many states | look upon hla candidacy, with fav- ' or and It ia believed he will be the , winner In the 1940 convention and 1 election. While taking your cool-off evening ride about town, notice the number of new homes being built. I You will find them in every part • <»f the city and most of them are I modern, fhte residences. The city 1 is growing rapidly and it's next to Impossible to rent a house here. i That s the best sign of a good com-' inunlty and It's been going on here the past several years. ■ The Indiana automobile Hcense bureau reports an all time high | record for number of licenses Is- i sued with more than a million cars ‘operating In the state. The same I thin* is true In most of the states Os the I’nlon. giving some idea of I the traffic problem Looking ahead a few years it is easy to guess how , neceaaary by pass roads or wider main highways, perhaps both, will | be. An Increased tex rate to meet relief demands will be necessary I for next year, the county commie-1 stoners having wisely decided np j on a "pay as we go" plan rather ’ than a bond issue which would on ly postpone the day of reckoning I and would Increase from year to 1 year. It Is a vexing problem, per-I haps not as bad here as In many other cities, townships and couu-1 ties, but sufficient that every one I should be interested. * ell any way we are uot hearing so much about "rubber stamps ' in congress though we don't under-1 stand just why. The Republican members from Indiana voted solid ' ily against the administration on 1 each occasion, but we presume that was not the stamp variety. In the recent Indiana legislature, the G. I O. P. had a majority of twp votes ! but were able to carry every mens- ' ure through that the state chair-I man gave hla O. K. to. What was ; that? Politics is a funny game and ' there are many who mem to be able to play it both ways from lhe middle. T|n Krick-Tyndall tile plant I which was destroyed by fire about ' a year and a half ago will be re--1 built, according to announcement | from J. Leo Child, chairman of the I Ixrard. This Is splendid news for I thia community, restoring an Industry which for three score years I had played a prominent part. It , will employ from seventy-five to I a hundred men and wilt <<>ntitiu<this aa one of the important murk , eta of the slate for this product. While some details must be work ed out before construction begin*, thia is being done now and it Is expected that It will be well under way by the first of the month. While It Ims required a long time ' to reach the point where the com puny could make a definite decij alon. due to the fact that numer--1 ous details had tn be decided upon. Mr. Childs believes they can proceed rapidly now and that within a few mouths the plant will be operating at full spaed. They have maintained their business contacts and taken care of their customers and will be able to meet nil demands hi 1940. Local merchants and < itlsens. Including former emI ploys, of the mill raised a fund of approximately <10.060 as an added inducement for rebuilding the factory. Thia has been held In- | tact by the Chamber of Commerce j to be turned over when operation begins. The new mill will be of latest design, equipped with modI «trn maritUie* and will mean rnurh j to every one here.
