ALLEGED KILLER IS HELD INSANE William Ray Butuch To Be Sent To Criminal Insane Prison Indianapolis. May 9 — iu.RJ — William Ray Hutacb. ST-yaar-old accused murderer, today was held in iha Marlon county jail trending removal to the Colony Forony for the criminally insane at the Michlflan City state penitentiary He wan declared Insane and committed to the prison late yesterday by special Judge Omar O’Harrow who was to hear hie trial on the charge of slaying Mrs Carrie Lelah Romig In a robbery cf her apartment last January. O’Harrow baaed hla ruling on evidence that Rutach was an Insane paronoic that was submitted by Dr Max A. Bahr, superintend eut of the central state hospital, and Dr. La Rue Carter, psychiatrist, appointed by the court to examine the defendant. Buts.h protested the sentence and declared that he would lihv to be tried by a jury on the murder Indictment “I desire to prove my innocence," he said, "and if 1 am convicted 1 will gladly go to electric chair. I am sane because both doctors gave perjured test Imony." Rutach continued to Insist that he be permitted to defend himself, but Judge O'Harrow said that he did not beljeve the defendant was "of sufficient sound mind to do this.” He permitted Rutach to take the witness stand for the second time despite objections of the prosecution. Hutsch smiled broadly when he was led from the courtroom and made no reaistance when officers slipped handcuffs on him. The committment, however, does not dose the Romig case.
