Schlesinger is rending Jimm> Swinnerton, a supervising director, and three staff artists to the Grand canyon to study backgrounds for a new cartoon series, "The Canyon Kiddies." It’s based on Swinnerton’s drawings in Good Housekeeping. Looks as if it will be a long time before M-G-M remakes "I Take This Woman.” Spencer Tracy, who co-starred with Hedy Lamarr, has bought passage for Europe as soon as he finishes "Stanley and Livingstone.” His planned sailing date is April 20 and he expects to be gone for two months. Understand Henry Hull has turned down eight play offers in the last four months and will say a definite goodby to Broadway. Hollywood wasted him on small roles for months, but the studios are clamoring for him now. Did you hear Gregory Ratoff's crack when he saw the Indians Twentieth Century-Fox imported for “Susannah of the Mounted” ? "Look at them.” he dialected. “Vy don't they send those people back to the country they came from?" Speaking of Indians, a reader of this column, who says he is a former first lieutenant in the United States cavalry and a commander of Apfiche scouts in Arizona, takes issue with the Walter Wanger picture, “Stage Coach.” "It is all right for thrills," he said, “but the Apache was never much of a horseman and did ail his fighting on foot.” Most sensational sequence in the picture Is a running gunfight between a stage coach and a war party of Geronimo’s braves.
