In West Virginia state forester Dan B. Griffin appealed for 2,000 more volunteers. He said the tires were the worst the state has experienced in ' eight years. - -o CAST VOTES ON fCWNTTNUKD FXOX PACK ONE) j and Raymond E. Willis, Republi-; can for United States senator, has held promise of being one of the | most interesting. County voters : have heartily endorsed the candid-1 acy of Frank G. Thompson, Blufftoil newspaperman and Democrat ■ in his race for state auditor against Republican Louis R. Markun and the county is expected to ballot ' heavily In his favor. Other than a i party interest, the balance off Tie state ticket is not expected to lie so closely watched by county resi- 1 dents. City Ticket Heading the city election ticket, 1 of course, is the contest between 1 present Mayor Arthur R. Holt-1 house, newspaperman and Demo cratic candidate and Forrest Elzey, Republican barber, for the city’s executive post. Interest in the contest between Mrs. Alice Christen, Democrat and H. Vernon Auraud, Republican for the city clerk-treas-urer post, is expected to be second only to the mayor’s race. Since a new set-up permits city council seats to be entirely filled •by major party aspirants, rather , than requiring one minority memi ber as in previous elections the j I council post races also promise eni thusiasm. The Democratic candid- : ates are: George W. Meyer, first I district; George W. Stults, second; I Andrew Appelman, third; Ed. J. i Keller, fourth and Herman Gillig, I at large. The Republicans: Russell ’ Owens, first; Morris Pingry. secI ond; George T. Harding, third: | Charles C. Langston, fourth and - Kenneth Arnold, at large.
