The Hurricane of Fall Autumnal storms this year will be of weaker intensity than norrtial. Most of the strength of our equinoctial storms was expended last spring in heavy rains over the Western Plains and in the Mississippi Valley. Except for two periods of moderate intensity, one late in September and one late in October, the power of this Fall's hurricanes will not be great. Equinoctial storms start in the torrid zone and move into more northern latitudes. In spring the heat of the torrid zone is only moderate, but to the north we have the intensely cold air of winter. When the masses of | these two airs meet they produce a violent storm. In autumn the torrid zone is quite hot, while to the north the air is beginning to chill with coming winter, and when these two airs mix they again make violent storms. Spring storms and autumn storms differ slightly, but in their strong whirling action, their violent winds and wet weather they are identical. Both occur shortly after the time of the equinox which, in spring is about March 21 and in autumn about Septem- , ber 22. In spring these storms i move to the north, while in aut- ' umn they start mostly in the I area of the West Indies. This Fall hurricanes will follow two general paths. One path is by Cuba, and into the Gulf of Mexico where the hurricanes will move across the Gulf of Louisiana and Texas. On the other path hurricanes will follow along the coast of Florida. Georgia, North and South Carolina. For the most part our coming hurricanes will appear to us only as heavy rain storms. WEATHER QUESTIONS Question —Is the weather bur- ; eau in Richmond.
