GUNMAN LOOTS CAPITAL BANK Lone Bandit Robs Indianapolis Bank, No Clues To Gunman Indianepolls, Aug. 26 — (U.P) — I Police were without a clue today ' I in their search for n young gunman who struck with the precision i “nd calmness of the late John Dillinger and robbed the North Sid" branch cf the Merchants National Bank of more than $1,600. The slim desperado, gayly clad i tn a red and gray sport jacket, i -ntered the bank at ( losing time I yesterday afternoon, forced three I employes into the vault, scooped i up the loot and escaped in a large : ' sedan. State police joined city officials I in a hastily thrown dragnet in the I western half of Indianapolis, but drew blanks at every turn. It was believed the bandit fled west. Ralph Prange. manager, William Grauel, a teller, and Richard Pressei, a clerk, were working tiehind u counter cleaning up the day's buss-l ness when the robber entered. “This is a stlckup. Face the j wall and get into the vault." he I snapped. He threatened them with an automatic. They lined up against the wall while the bandit scooped th<* conj tents of two cash drawers. Then he ordered them into the vault where Prange was forced to take two patkages from a safe. One contained SI,OOO in $1 bills and the other SSOO of the same denomination. “Is that all?” the gunman queried calmly. Prange said it was but the stranger called him a liar and dragged forth a package of silverware and other valuables owned

by William ('. Grauel, father of the teller uml vice-president of the bank. He fired a shot of warning, rattled the vault door and fled to lue automobile parked in a nearby I driveway. The victims described him as about 35, five feet nine Inches tall and weighing about 135 pounds. He wore dark glasses and had a dark complexion. A sipiiid of detectives called a few minutes later and attempted to find fingerprints or other clues ' but returned empty handed. They, were unable to link the gunmiin's . description with any criminal at ' large. Prange estimated the total loss | “somewhere between $1,500 and $2,000.” The robbery was the first bank holdup In the state since February, when a robber went to the home of the casliler of the Burnettsville bank, forced him out of bed and I to the bunk where he opened the vault. The bandit escaped with a 1 small amount. The last time an Indianapolis' bank was raided was in Septem-; ber, 1933, when John Dillinger led ( a gang into the Massachusetts I Ave. State Bunk and went out with $24,000. o WEINBERG BACK (CONTINUED FROM PAGE ONE) give this answer? “Q Who was present when Schultz talked to' Hines?
