there also is expected to he some federal patronage discussed. One of the points at Issue is Van Nuys' past refusal to consult the statehouse on his appointments. ; To Make Statement Van Nuys was asked today what he had to say now in reference to i his old charges that the statehouse was full of "corruption and grafters.” "I'll have something to say about that later today and it will be In writing,” Van Nuys said. Inferring 1 that he wanted to leave himself i open to no misinterpretation on his I position In this respect. Van Nuys Is expected to join the public deliberations of a state con ‘ vention "advisory committee” of, representatives from each of the twelve Indiana congressional dis trictts which will present recommendations to the state convention on the 1938 Democratic platform. This group, consisting entirely of administration friends, will conduct hearings tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday. A compromise may be effected on such matters Van Nuys has opposed, such as the state's port-of-entry system, and those which the I statehouse actually favors, led by the "progressive" stand of such ■ men as Gov. Townsend and Sen- l ator Sherman Minton. Van Nuys also is expected to be consulted about convention details, the makeup of the rest of the 1938 Democratic ticket and the formalities which will attend his renomination probably on the first ballot.

Answer—Sometimes the edge of a lense is not ground with the same accuracy as the center and when this occurs the edge of the ; lens produces the rainbows which you see in the glass. The only thing to do in this case is to paste I black paper over the edges of the lens and stop out the bad portion which cause the rainbows. Question — Is the upper air warmer or cooler in the summer? C. P. S. Answer—Summer air is markedly warmer close to the ground. Higher up the differences are less marked, but they are present clear to the stratosphere. However, the air high over the equator, where the surface is the hottest, is the coldest on earth. Question —Does sunshine purify i bottled drinking water? F. I. Answer — Assuming that you ! mean bottled drinking water which is tightly corked up, no. But if you will expose the drinking water to the combination of sunshine and fresh air, it will quickly be purified. ® — » DO SUN SPOTS AFFECT WEATHER? Sun spots are now near their i greatest intensity. These gigantic black storms on the sun I are supposed to have an influ- j ; ence upon the weather. What is i this influence? What causes sun spots? Why do they come i and go? These interesting questions are answered in a I I-monograph on Sun Spots prepared by Prof. Selby Maxwell. This monograph will be sent to j you free with the compliments of this newspaper If yon will address your request to Prof. Selby Maxwell, care of this ' newspaper.
