The city ballots were counted first. Mayor Holthouse carried all but one of the precincts. The first precinct to report, Second ward “B” was carried by Vance by 14 votes. It gave Vance 104 and Holthouse 90. The next precinct to report was Second ward “A.” i It gave Holthouse 237: Vance 100 and Berling 62. Holthouse’s lead piled up as the other four precincts reported. Mary Pickford, veteran of many Atlantic crossings, engineered the ruse. After seeing Olivia on her way, Miss Pickford joined the first class passengers and faced the press. The Coogan case would have taken an entirely different turn if the Bernsteins had followed the advice of Dave Epstein, publicity man, who thought he had them talked into making an important statement. However, the press conference never came off. * Ever wonder how Myrna Loy happened to pick her last name? The star, real name Williams, decided to use a different one on the screen because Kathlyn Williams was a well-known of the day. Myrna had been reading French history and had come ! across the name, Lois. It appealed to her so much that she shortened , it to "Loy" and became Myrna Loy. The Oriental angle never occurred to her until the phone book came out and she saw her name sandwiched in between Hop Loy i and Sing Loy. Groucho Marx has lost the glasses that he uses as part of his 1 screen makeup. He purchased I them 11 years ago in New York for 25 cents. For their return, no questions asked, he will pay a reward of $75. In "Right Angles", the picture he’ll make for Gregory La Cava, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., plays the type of role that his father made famous. To live up to the athletic prowess demanded, the star has installed a gymnasium in his beach Ford counsel or delay a hearing on them until its petition for withdrawal of enforcement of its order against the Ford Co. is decided. 0 LIST VOTES IN (CONTINUED FROM PAGE ONE) Franklin 11. May 4 —(UP) —Jack Edwards, former mayor of Marion, staged a comeback today to win the Democratic mayoralty nomination by approximately a five to one mar- ■ gin. ! Mayor Carl Barney, who defeated Edwards four years ago. was lead-' ing for the Republican nomination by the same margin and the two •men seemed certain to campaign against each other again in tbe fall election. — —o- — — Rare Racing Prints Placed On Display French Lidk, Ind, May 4—(UP)— | A $150,000 gallery of rare racing prints was formally opened at the! famous SPA today by Stuyvesant Peabody, nationally-known Chicago’ turfman. Just found out that Arleen Whelan has never seen a foot of I "Kidnaped” and doesn’t know what she will look like on the screen except from some of the early tests.. She tried for months I to see the rushes but Director Al , Werker was afraid it would make | her self-conscious. If you h(»vc never seen and heard yourself on the screen, you can't Imagine what ! a shock It is. I'm speaking from brief but con- ' vlncing experience.
