THOMAS GIVEN LITTLE CHANCE Louis Heavy Favorite; Seek Soldier Field For Schmeling Bout Chicago, Mar. 31.—KU.R> Promiitw Mike Jacoka was expected from flew York today to' dicker with members of Chicago’s South Park board over rental of Soldier Field-for the proposed Joe LouisMax Schmeling fight which follows in June if the bomber can dispose of Harry Thomas in the stadium Friday night. Louis was a 20 to 1 favorite to retain his heavyweight champion ship against Thomas and even those odds may be placed higher. There was virtually no wagering on the bout. Although New York. Philadelphia and Detroit were being considered for the million dollar return match between laruis and Schmeling. it was reported Chicago would get the bout if Jacobs can secure Soldier Field for a satisfactory fee. I The South Park board demanded 25 per cent of the gross receipts for the Louis-Braddock fight last Juii(*~nnd drove Jacobs into Comiskey park. The New York promoter indicated Louis and Schmeling might ap- j proach the record gate established by Jack Dempsey and Gene Tuneney in their second match in 1927 in he can rent Soldier Field. Louis, meanwhile, ended training for Thomas wth the most vicious workout he ever put on in Chicago. He cut loose for six rounds against three sparmates and showed ringaiders he intended to cut down the stocky Eagle Bend. Minn., challenger in less time than Schmeling did. Schmeling was awarded an eight round technical knockout over Thomas after dropping him

I am not going to tell Mr. Brands that I picked the Washing- ' ton Senators and St. Louis Card- . inals to win last year. As a result I got all confused and sent Mr. Brands a set of predictions that, as well as I remember, I had the Phillies coasting home in the National and the Browns winning by five games in the AmerI ican.
