DR. MYERS IS ON EXPEDITION Husband Os Former Decatur Girl On 10,000Mile Expedition Bloomington. Ind., March 19 — (Special) — Dr. George S. Myers. Stanford University Ichthyologist and a former student of Indiana University, is a member of the party of scientists now on a 10.000 mile expedition to the equatorial waters of the Pacific collecting a cargo of deep-sea specimens for Stanford and other educational institutions. Dr. Myers is a brother-in-law of Dwight L. Peterson, president of the City Securities Corporation of Indianapolis and a trustee of Indiana University. Mrs. Myers was the former Ruth Frisinger of Decatur, who was graduated from Indiana University in 1925. She is a sister of Mrs.

Peterson. Dr. Myers attended Indiana University from 1924-26 and was InI fluenced in coming to the state unI Iversity by the late Dr. Carl H. Eigenmann, formerly head of the zoology department and dean of • the graduate school. Dr. Myers later went to Stanford University upon the invitation of the late President David Starr Jordan, from which Institution he received the A. M. and Ph. D. degrees. The expedition of which Dr. Myers is a member, is headed by Capt. G. Allan Hancock of Hollywood, I owner and commander of the Vai- ; ero 111 on which ship the trip is being made. The ship previously has carried six scientific expeditions to little-known regions of the Pacific. Photographer W. Charles Swett, who has accompanied Captain Hancock on previous trips, is making a photographic record in all the activities of the expedition colors and in black and white of Sound producing equipment is being carried aboard the Valero 111 for the first time and experiments are being conducted in the production of educational sound pictures.
On the present expedition, Dr. Myers is being accompanied by scientists and collectors from the University of Southern California, Harvard University, the Smithsonian Institution, the United States National Museum at Washington. Scrips Institute of Oceanography and the San Diego Zoo. Extensive studies of the great Humboldt current which sweeps up the west coast of South America and turns westward in the region of the equator are being made. Efforts are being made to collect specimens in the highest I and the lowest levels of the west-1 ern hemisphere, as the party hop-1 es to ascend the Ecuadorian Andes t in search of the Andean Condor. The Valero 111 is expected back this spring with a cargo of equatorial fish, echinoderms, crustaceans, South America sea lions, seals, ! penguins, marine birds, reptiles, rodents and other animals. Many stops will be made along the Mexican west coast, Central and South America, with visits to Panama, ' Cocos Island. Malpelo Island, the Galapagos Archipelago and the bird islands off the coast of Peru. . The Hancock expeditions are philanthropic undertakings, designed to benefit universities, museums • and zoos in nature study projects.
