WIEMAN COACH j AT PRINCETON Tad Weiman Succeeds C'risler As Princeton Football Coach Princeton. N. J., Feb. 22.—<U.RX— Kltoit K. (Tad) Wietnan, great ! Michigan tackle of 2o years ago. [ began his new job of shaping Princeton university's football future today. Wieman. assistant to Herbert (Fritz) Crisler here for the last six years, was named last night by Princeton’s council on athletics |to succeed Crisler, who resigned as head coach two weeks ago to be football boss at Michigan. Joining Michigan’s coaching staff j immediately after graduation in 11921, Wieman worked up as assistant to athletic director Fielding H. Yost and Daily was named head coach in 1927. but after a disastrous season he joined Crisler at Minnesota. Crisler brought him to Princeton in 1931 and he coached the powerful forward walls that lifted Princeton football from the doldrums. Wieman said he would retire from his insurance business in nearby Philadelphia and move his family residence to Princeton. JOE LOUIS TO BATTLE MANN Sell-Out In Prospect For Heavyweight Fight Wednesday New York. Feb. 22 — (U.R) — Belated assaults on the box-office promised today to make Wednesday's Joe Louis-Nathan Mann heavyweight championship prize fight a sell-out. Probably never in New York ring history has a title event ap proached the sports horizon with so little furor and fanfare. Only ihis week have New Y’orkers become aware of the impending hostilities. One reason for this is that boxing news, generally speaking, has been definitely bullish. Since | Louis and Mann went to their camps there have been such prize I tight developments as the retirement of James J. Braddock. the Schmellng-Foord and AdamickThomas fights, and the Steel-Barth , and the Escobar-Jeffra title affairs. So the drumbeats started by Mike Jacobs' publicity corps have been somewhat drowned out. Another and perhaps more valid reason is that Mann, to be brut- ] ally frank, isn’t given a chance. ] The professional gambling odds are 6-1 in favor of Louis, but there ] are no takers. The only betting is on a knockout and it's 2-1 that Louis wins that way. While Mann has given off some predictions of victory which must ( have been highly assuring to his ■ loved one and close friends, they have been taken lightly by the . fight mob. Even the charter mem- ; bers of the “Louis-is-a-bum club, Inc.,” and its associate and junior j members, to say nothing of the ladies auxiliary and the girls' drum and bugle corps are not relying | upon the impending fisticuffs to ] prove their charter of incorpor- ( ration. ( So Louis vs. Mann, 15 rounds, ■ Madison Square Garden. Wednesday. February 23, 9 p. m.. CST., shapes out as boxing formula No. 77-B which is —“Louis probably will win and certainly should, but if Mann should happen to get over a good right," etc. Louis and Mann have one definite basis of comparison. Each has met and beaten Bob Pastor in a 10-round bout. Mann’s supporters point to the fact that Mann floored Pastor while Bob remained erect *rs his meeting with Louis, j This isn't quite fair, however, as [ Robert, when he was in the ring against Joe. had jfist one thought in mind. That was to stay out of Joe's reach. He did that by rid- . ing backwards for exactly 30 minutes. Pastor D-I-D go the route with Louis but gave the custom- , ers a miserable show. Fishman was picking up 13. Chicago broke a 38 to 38 tie in the last three minutes and won its second game since 1935 by defeating Illinois. 43 to 39 Lewis (Pick) Dehner added 13 points for a league-leading total of 133 for the season. Mich., to the Gulf| of Mexico, seeking contributions from utility firms for Martin L j Davey's campaign for governor. | Bradley testified that early m 1934 he wrote a letter to Paul | Davey, brother of Gov. Davey, from Atlanta, saying: "l just finished a second cornercnee with Mr. P. 8. Artwright. president of the Georgia Power Co. He called Mr Wendell Willkie in New York but found him out of his , office. I At that time, Bradley testified. ! the U. S. senate was investigating I utility companies and Willkie told j him and Davey: "I am afraid of i letters. Let me go to bed over this and you come back tomorrow." Davey went hack to Ohio and Bradley kept a later appointment ; with Willkie. Bradley said today.
