CAGE TEAMS IN FINAL MONTH New Albany, St. Xavier Os Louisville In Feature Tilt Indianapolis. Feb. 4.- KU.Rz* Indiana basketball swings Into one of its daffiest weekends tonight with conference races, narrowed mainly to two teams in each, and an Important interstate feud, starting eagers down their last road before the annual state tournament. Indt&na cage prestige will be in the balance tomorrow as St. Xavier, pride of Kentucky and Louisville, entertains the New Albany Bulldogs. No quintet in Kentucky or Indiana has held the Tigers this season, although 14 attempts have been made St- Mary of Anderson, state Catholic champs, made one recently and was badly squashed. Other strong teams to fall before Xavier include Midway. 1937 Ken- ' tucky state champion. Newport. Frankfort (Ky.) and Manual and Male so Louisville. HcEftSler fans will back the Bulldogs against Kentucky's best. New Albany has won 13 of 15. losing Wednesday night to Jeffersonville by two points, but still is a favorite in the coming state tournament. Coach Johnny Wooden and his South Bend Central squad tonight have their hardest task of the season. They must stop the big Elkhart Blue Blaers. a feat which no other team in the eastern division has accomplished. Only one team —Warsaw—has blocke dthe blazing trail of the Blue boys, which has run through LaPorte. two out-of-state teams and two South Bend fives. Riley and Washington. A victory would put Central on top of the conference. Another outstanding scrap tonight puts Richmond “on the spot'' against Frankfort. If the Hot Dogs can steam through the Red Devils Muncie will virtually take the north central conference championship- Richmond trails Muncie by the number of games won: both have lost two. The Bearcats face the comparatively easy Newcastle Trojans, who broke a 16-game streak of Logansport last week. Kokomo, still with a problematical chap.ce at the title, meets Anderson. and Jefferson of Lafayette goes to Logansport. The Martinsville-Greencastle tilt puts the heat in the south central race as the Artesians defend their record of seven victories. A recent conouest of Bedford has put Martinsville, among the state's top ten. while the small, fast Greencastle Cubs also have spurted to the front by trouncing Anderson and Jeffersonville. The crucial game of the northeastern league tomorrow night pits the Sputhsiders against their north end foes in Fort Wayne's biggest court attraction of the year. Both a city and conference championship are at stake. South Side, with 14 won in 15 played, is tied with North Side’s Redskins at four-all tn the conference. Tonight the Sontb’iders meet Goshen and the Redskins take on Auburn in a conference encounter. o —" World Canoe Trio Planned Albany, N. Y. —(UP)—By lashing together three canoes, Caipt. William Sallsten hopes to construct a craft that will carry him around the world in two and a half years. He says he has made 30-odd voyages around the world.

1 tonight would be doubly sweet. j —oOo — < The Berne Bears and Bluffton Tigers put up a whale of a scrap last night as Bluffton, with the Tigers emerging victors after a fierce tusstle, 18 to 16. Every day, it looks more and more like a real dog fight for the Bluffton sectional title next March. --000 — This tastes just a bit of sour grapes, Jesse: “We wonder if the Airedales weren't a trifle over confident when they entered that game Tuesday evening. One could hardly guess i that a recent victory over the Roll Red Rollers and a previous 30-27 ! conquest of thb Decaturs would be ■ reason for over-confidence but ■ nevertheless it appeared that after ' running up a 6-2 lead early in the I game, our boys were ready to call ' it quits and mark one up in the win column. They didn't awaken to the fact that they were getting a very sound drubbing until late in the third quarter.”—Jesse Kelly.
