A minor disturbance occurred at, the' foundry Wednesday immedi-' ately after the U. A. W. picketing order. Yesterday pickets grew in number throughout the day. Re-. crults were brought from Pontiac. Flint and other neighboring towns. I By nightfall it was estimated that I. more than 700 were here. Early in the evening a small detail of officers succeeded in entering the foundry to obtain castings. Riding in five trucks, and firing intermittent shots into the air. 25 officers literally drove through a picket Hue comprising some 150 men. Pickets withstood the trucks until several men were knocked down, unhurt. The trucks depart-j ed after obtaining the castings but, a small guard remained inside. Deputies, aided by additional' men under Sheriff Havel, made three other attempts to break j through the lines- Numerous ad-1 ditional shots were fired, all into j the air. o I High School Student Is Fatally Wounded Greencastle, £nd., Jan. 14 —(UP) I — Robert Stoner, Jr.. 14-year-old Greencastle high school s'udent, was fatally wounded today when a .22 caliber rifle discharged accident- . ally when he was cleaning it. Kokomo. Horace Mann. Coach Alfred "Peedad" Catnp--1 bell’s Kokomo outfit still is the I favorite for the north central ■ I crown. They're big, tough, and j have taken their conference tilts l>y narrow but sufticlent margins. The Cats, undefeated in six games, meet Logansport tonight for a tussle that easily could crush championship hopes. The Berries have been improving and their posftien near the bottom of the loop is ntls- , leading. The Muncie Bearcats, back from j their Jeffersonville contest, get a I severe test against Jefferson of 1 Lafayette. Early in the week the I Bronchos were beaten by Ueban- ; on at their own game—speed and | the fast brek—and should be hot for a come-back. Marion at Rich- | tnond and Newcastle at Frankfort will have no important bearing on the conference race. The Horsemen of Gary seem to be a bit wobbly at the top of the i western division and Froebel. who once topped them, intends to repeat. Crawfordsville outscored and outplayed Mann last Wednesday ; with a better type of bang-away basketball than the Horsemen ! could match. If Froebel can upset Mann, the division will be wide i open for Hammond, Emerson and I Whiting. o IrnUe In A Good Town — necolwr
